Howdy all,
I am prepping to glas bed my Remington 700. First time bedding. I am using the accuglass kit from brownells. I do not have any special bedding screws as I see in other posts/instructions/videos. I am fairly certain that I can still complete this job without the special screws, but want to make sure that the bolts dont get epoxied in the action. what is the best way to complete this? build a clay dam around the bolts, or just insure that the release agent is well coated and dont worry about epoxy getting in the threads? I also have noticed that everyone has a different technique, so I am sure someone has some good ideas out there.

thanks

Re: glas bedding without bedding screws?

I bought some bolts at Lowe's and cut the heads off. Used them as studs and coated them liberally with neutral show polish. I also wrapped the studs a couple of times with tape to help fill the gap around the studs so epoxy wouldn't slide down into the action holes.

Does that help? I'll see if I can dig up some pics of the last one I did if you still need help. Also, search in this forum and you should find several fantastic threads on bedding the action.

That does help. Thanks a ton. I read all of the great threads on this forum I could find. I did not find one that addressed this specific question.

Here's my Savage Target action pics:

This last pic shows how the tape around the studs seals up the hole so epoxy doesn't get down in there. Its not the end of the world if it does, you just need to clean it out later if it does.

And I know the stud is upside down, I was just showing that its a snug fit for the picture.

Good luck man!
