Rifle Scopes Glassaholic's History of Reviews

Roger that. Some define alpha based on price point while others base on performance, sorry if my title was a bit misleading but I would say the ATACR and LOW 6-36's are very capable of keeping up with the "higher priced" alpha's.

Yeah the higher bravos are better now but still not alpha. Not always about price point but a company raising their prices or coming out high priced doesn't make a scope alpha automatically. I am sure there are people who consider those three alpha but I don't from price or performance stand point. No problem with doing a comparison like that though to give others an idea of what to expect. I would have just called it something different.

In this case the "higher bravo" scopes, as you call them, outperformed the "alpha" scopes in some categories. So, while I see your point, it's becoming increasingly difficult to quantify what means what and the jargon all begins to feel quite juvenile.

If we're just talking perceived brand prestige well then I suppose it's evolving into more of a jewelry-esque comparison than one based on actual performance, deployment history, reliability, customer service or brand longevity.

Out of curiosity, would "alpha" just be TT, ZCO, and maybe the Kahles 328i then?

I wouldn't consider the new Khales 328i an Alpha-scope by any means. It still has quite a bit CA at the edges and leaves a lot to be desired on the parallax forgiveness. Still, it's good but not TT or ZCO good. IMHO

Yeah it is juvenile just like people who cry when someone says that a scope that costs less is close to one they spent thousands of dollars on. Lol

That it is becoming harder is a good thing for the buyers. I think the terms are stupid to begin with and the scopes should be judged on their performance. Let’s just say higher priced if that is what it is. It’s more about the people’s egos who spent all the money on them. Like the guy driving a maserati feels superior to the guy driving a Honda even though the Honda will do everything he needs his maserati to do and will last longer. Lol All ego.

Haha, I think we are on the same page. The terminology does feel a bit silly. I will say that for folks like you and I, who have been doing this for a very long time, the point of entry for a pretty solid piece of glass feels much lower than it was 20 years ago. These modern scopes are incredible compared to some of my older stuff.
