Rifle Scopes Glue an optic into the mount?

Just been looking at the SPUHR website, and they point out that the inside of their rings are grooved to better hold the scope tube, as well as for gluing in the scope.

Do any of you glue your scope into the mount, and what are the pro's and con's - has anyone done any real testing on this, or is it a solution looking for a problem?

I have seen this done in the military using epoxy, and I've seen a gunsmith use 3M's liquid electrical tape to bed a scope in its rings. Neither will hurt anything, the later will be easy to remove, but applying any permanant compound will only limit your options to change things, move, adjust, etc. Many things people do in this nature are only a temporary fix for long-term problem. Most off these problem can be over-come by just buying the correct/quality gear in the first place.

Nothing wrong with using loctite, vibra-tite, etc to ensure fasteners are secure and don't move, and some go as far as using some compounds to bed a base on a receiver. I use Loctite 409 to bed my bases on rifles that are 300WM or larger calibers.

Why would you want to glue a scope to a mount?! There is no point.
The rings themselves do a good enough job of holding onto them.

KYS338 - my question exactly but I guess if your running a AIAW which has the action epoxied to the stock, it may make some sense to glue the scope and rings into one unit once everything is setup perfect?

I was trying to understand why someone would do it as well, since this is really the first I ever heard of it.

To me is sure makes sense to use something removable, but heck if your working for the gubmint and want everything to stay exactly where you put it, and not likely to sell off equipment any time, then may make some sense, just figured I would pose the question as well to all the other folks here...

There is no reason at all for a normal civilians.
But for Military where the gun is in various vehicles vibrating around in many miles before they are used is another story.
Mostly things not glued comes loose!

For civilians we always recomend the use of rosin that will greatly add friction in the rings But also not leave anything on the scope.

The only scope that I know of that has a mount glued to it, is the Hensoldt 6-24 SAM, but it also carries a host of onboard sensors and ballistic computers.

It's not Uncommon that Military scopes are glued.
We are just providing possibilitys for it....
Then it's up to the customer and do what they like.....
But we at Spuhr will not tell our Military customers to not glue, if they see a reason to glue they should have the best possibilitys to do so.
I belive they know the best in this matter.

I bet it is to meet drop test needs, makes sense to me for the vibration as Spuhr points out.

I am guessing the ability to remove that .001% (yes super tiny) chance it gets knocked out is good enough, or it could be magic feather moment.
