Gonna need some pants

I've been asked to return to our firearms training unit as a supervisor. I wore 5.11 pants when I worked there before and still have a few pair but they are in pretty ragged shape. I need to buy another two or three pair, not necessarily 5.11 both something along the same lines (I'll be damned if I'm going to throw the "T" word out talking about pants).

Anyone recommend something better than the 5.11? I'm pretty rough on them out there, lots of kneeling and prone in the gravel. I have a limited budget unfortunately so I can't break the bank on them but looking for a good cost vs. quality option.

Recommendations appreciated.

Re: Gonna need some pants

Woolrich elete series way more comfortable then 511. They are roomy and rock. Come with removable knee pads.

Once you try them you wont go back to 511

Re: Gonna need some pants

I purchased some "Operator Pants" from LAPolicegear.com, they were seconds for $15. They are comfortable and have the reinforced ares of concern. I have never tried the 511 stuff so I can't give a comparison.

+1. Have three pairs of them (all khaki). Wife complains I wear the same pants all the time...

Re: Gonna need some pants

I'm going to try to find a local vendor who carries the Woolrich. I've heard good things about them before but I'd like to check the fit before buying if I can. Manufacturers seems to have yardsticks marked differently.

I ordered a pair of the $15 pants from LA Police Gear to try out. Ordered a pair of the new Under Armor boots and figured at $15 they're worth a shot.

Thanks for the recommendations so far guys.

Re: Gonna need some pants

I like the Woolrich lightweight pants. I've also got a pair of the Versa-Tacs from Railriders. They are made from a very tough nylon and I use them for wet weather range days instead of the typical cotton pants. They're more expensive but they seem extremely sturdy.

Re: Gonna need some pants

If you have a Cabelas near you, I would check out the Cabelas brand cargo pants. Theyre made of some pretty tough material and take a beating. The knees are a doubly ply material and as a LE firearms instructor they get their fair share of kneeling and they hold up great. They do not have provision to put those neoprene knee pads in them, but if you have worn them you know they get really hot. So im not really a fan.

Re: Gonna need some pants

I've been wearing black Tru-Spec 24/7's and they are very nice and have held up good for the last year. I wear them daily for work and have several other colors for non-work. They have actually not faded as bad as I thought they would. As for fit they are fuller cut so I went down in size and are still very comfortable. HTH, I will be buying more.

+1 on the Operator Pants. I have 3 pair that have been worn almost everyday for the last 18 months. They are inexpensive, last really well, are comfortable and have a few colours (yes spelt correctly lol) to choose from.

Agreed.. just an FYI.. I think they run longer than most pants but waist seems about right.

+1 for sure Phylo, wish they they would have had those available when I worked on the range.

No comparison, you will like them. When you need the knee pads just rip the velcro open and shove em in!!

Damn. I don't know why I didn't think of that, I've been on there for a few months now. Thanks for the reminder.

ETA: Just ordered one pair of their pants via Promotive. I'll check them for fit when they show up and order a few more if they're good to go. Thanks again for the reminder jerseymike.

You have to fill out the questionnaire when you apply for a team.

Re: Gonna need some pants

Got a pair of the Woolrich pants in earlier this week, thank you guys for the recommendations. They are far and away better than the 5.11's I'm used to. I have two more pair on order which should show up next week.

Much appreciated.
