Neither do I, BUT I came darn close this past weekend. It's my new personal best. Thought I had it beat 24hrs later, but after watching a double backflip, landing on its back, the dog drug itself back into a hole, thus ending my claim to the 1300yd confirmed kill. No carcass, no picture, doesn't count.

Thank You all. Tackleberry, That's Awesome!!! You do realize your patience resulted in the elimination of an entire family?....lmao @ Double3, go ahead and use the pose lol. The group of guys I shoot with; we have an agreement that you have to be able to recover the carcass for the shot to count. Keeps us honest I suppose lol. Sixfive, I'm using a Vortex Viper HSLR FFP 4-16x, on a DPMS LR65.

Nice! I am in search of the 1k+ this year if I could ever get up there to shoot.

I will admit, that I'm spoiled as I have plenty of towns at my disposal to shoot that are anywhere from 5 minutes away to an hour, so I can travel depending on weather if need be lol. I'm working up to a mile CK as my ultimate goal, but that is going to require a new build and optics. Ehh it's only money right?....lol

Orion I need to come shoot with you! Dog hunting is about the best legal fun I have ever had. I have to admit that I didn't go recover any of the 4 but 3 of us watch them die through 2 scopes and a spotter. But I do agree a pic sure tells the truth. What are the best times to shoot dogs there? I am trying to get a group for next spring or early summer to go again.

Pups are usually out early May, but the weather here is sketchy at best then (caught 6" of snow, when it had been 90 48hrs prior). It really depends, the longer shots are usually made in June, due to the willingness of the fresh pups to not run off when splashed with dirt, and there's ALOT of them lol. But again shooting greaser pup laden females in May is awesome, as they really POP when hit! Hell I'll shoot em just about any time lol.

Are there any places there where we can either hook up with a guide or do some public land hunting?

Not near me there isn't. Everything I shoot is on private land. The closest towns on public stuff would be up north towards the border with South Dakota, and then west towards Wyoming as well. All are just a couple hours from me.

If there was blood at your hole location it's a confirmed. Those fuckers don't leave their dead outside. They drag em into the hole so they don't attract predators.

Yes, We've seen them do that. Little fuckers seem to know when we have a guy heading downrange on the four wheeler too. That's when the corpse robbing generally happens, when we (the observers walking in the shooter to his prize) can't send any lead downrange....

We have had some discussion on the confirmed blood at the hole, but figure (for our little group anyways) that we'll keep the carcass requirement, and make it all just that little bit more challenging. Plus it's easier to defend when some jealous bastard tries to throw a bs flag.

If there is blood and its over 1200 yards I count it....longest for me this year is 856 yards so far with a 85gr Nosler Ballistic tip out of a 25-223 at 3000fps. I need to get out and break 1000 yards this year...its has been a while since I got a confirmed kill at over 1k.

Nice shooting.

Impress me more and tell me it was a first round hit?? Hell I can't see that far.

nice that's pretty impressive. I am currently just under 600 yards as my personal best with a 7mm rem mag. I am working on a heavy 223 rem ar-15 for dogging, my sps doesn't have the twist for heavy bullets. if anyone ever finds themselves in casper wyoming I know a lot of good dog towns.

I've got a load that works great out of my AR using 75gr Hornady BTHP, and 24.5 gr of CFE 223. I've taken that load out to 1100 on steel (military range sized (ish) human silhouette, so not really precision at that range). To date farthest PD with it is 547yds. That is due mostly to limitations on the scope I have mounted now(viper pst ffp 1-4x), as it's currently my 3 gun rifle.

If things work out right, I'll probably be out in Wyoming for a coyote contest this upcoming season. No time for pd's during that though. Contest time is all out for coyotes.

I plan on using 68-69 gr bthp bullets since I have a ton on hand. I am going to be shooting out of a heavy 24" barrel with a 6.5-20 viper. I am still putting it together so we will see what it likes. I want to get more into coyotes, you have a link for the competition? I am more or less out of serious shooting for now, my right arm is experiencing difficulties. I am still interested in checking it out.

Here's the link to the contest web page. It's out of Rawlins, but you can hunt anywhere you want to, as long as you make it to the rules meeting and check in on time.
