Well I got the Savage Mark 2 FV-SR...I see many hours of fun in me and my son's future!! My plan is to use this rifle as a trainer for both of us. He gets to learn the "rules of the road"; and dad gets to practice breathing, trigger control and everything else to be accurate with with the bigger toys.
However, we need a trainer scope in mil/mil(fixed or vari) that will mimic a Viper PST. (love my viper) No, we can't afford a second PST. Would like to stay around $250 (or less if possible). Any thoughts?

Re: got the stick..need the scope

forgot to add...anybody have prior knowledge on Primary Arms, or Falcon Menace scopes ??...for use as a trainer on .22lr.
I have NO knowledge on how these stack up.
I know vortex (love it). Know millet (dislike...damn big tank of a scope...low quality)

Re: got the stick..need the scope

I have a Falcon Menace 4-14 on my Marlin XT-22VR. It seems to be the perfect application for me. No complaints so far.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

MidwayUSA BSA MIL/MIL seemed to get good reviews from those who actually bought it. $250 and free shipping. It has mil hashes instead of dots like the FM and PA. Also has a lifetime warranty.

I will put the BSA on mine, or the LRS-1 if I don't sell it first.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

I am in the same boat as you. With that said, I am looking forward to seeing the responses that you receive.

I recently picked up a Savage FVSR from another hide member that I want to make a trainer out of. I have a Savage 10FP with a Vortex/Midway 5-15 PST for it. I am kind of leaning toward buying another one like it for the 22, as I want the mildot with mil adjustments.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

I have been running a Falcon 4-14 on my trainer. They have fallen out of favor some since I bought it a few years ago, but mine has done everything I've needed. It's not nearly as nice as the SS 5-20 that I have on the 308, but it doesn't need to be either.

If you can get that Bushnell for $125, that is a pretty good deal too.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

Take a look at LoneWolfUSMC's new MailCall Monday's episode.. he talks about budget scopes.

the falcon menace
the bushnell 10x
and the SS 10x

I have a bushnell 10x now and it gets the job done but doesn't have adjustable paralax.

Since im in the process of putting together a .22 trainer I will use the bushnell for now and then either put grade to the SS or the Falcon. I'm leaning towards the falcon for the variable power and it also comes in MOA/MOA which is what my PST's are.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

i had a falcon 4-14 and just traded it in for a new ss fixed 12x42 mil/mil and dont miss the menace at all. the turrets and clarity is better on the ss hands down, i will buy another fixed ss over the falcon time and time again. plus the ss has way more elavation adjustment and good if you like shooting out to 400-500yrds with a 20moa base. With the falcon zeroed at 50yrds I had 14.2mils of elavation left, SS has 23.3mils of elavation left after 50yrd zero. I can zero at 400yrds with STD velocity ammo with the SS, the turrets were very mushy on my menace and had quite a bit play between clicks(backlash). SS has very positive clicks and no play so every hash mark lines up perfectly unlike my falcon. The reticle is finer and for me more accurate.

Re: got the stick..need the scope

I decided to give the Midway (special sale) Weaver tactical (mil/mil with .1 clicks) grand slam a try (3-10x40). It arrived this afternoon! We'll see how it works out. I was getting mixed comments and reviews everywhere I looked / researched on both the Bushnell and the Falcon. I would have loved to put a SS 10x on the trainer...but I wanted a variable. I can't afford the ss 3-9..yet! Out of the box I was impressed with the Weaver; light weight, solid build, tactical turrents with solid feeling clicks. The clicks are hard to hear...maybe that is just me. Time will tell. Now if I can only find that extra set of rings !!! Damn where did I stash my extra parts box? I have got to get my s*&t together!
