Okay ... thats awesome ... +10 for that post

Re: gotta stay cheap

Whats the barrel quality like on those "tactical" 10/22's? For what they are they seem to be a bit expensive unless they come with a decent barrel

Re: gotta stay cheap

The description also mentions a target trigger. Is this strictly the trigger itself or are there any improvements inside?
I did check out Rugers website and thier info is a bit weak...

Re: gotta stay cheap

IMHO they arent tactical Ruger just markets them as "tactical" Same with Remington's 700 SPS Tacticals, I own one and i dont feel its tactical. Guess everyone has their own definitions but to me "tactical" has to be short, compact, (alright i see kind of how they market both guns as tactical) but also needs the ability to be adapted to any situation. maybe it needs a suppressor or a night optic added on to the day time one, or maybe just a flash light thats tactical to me. But big heavy barrels with black stocks just arent tactical.

Big difference between a SPS Tactical and a 10/22 Tactical. Mainly the fact that the SPS Tactical can fire a .223 or .308 round. The SPS Tactical can be used as a LE Sniper rifle by just mounting up a scope. I don't believe a 10/22 tactical could be.

Now there ARE tactical uses for a .22LR and they don't all involve engaging human targets.

Re: gotta stay cheap

Tactical to me means Practical. And there are practical uses for each of the two rifles. Practical for an operator that is, because our civilian practical won't be the same as military/LEO practical. Obviously the SPS-T could engage human targtes and the such should the need ever arise, while the 10/22 tactical could be operated in a firing squad for shooting out street lights or something like that. Will many of us ever use the rifles for those "tactical purposes" or will we use them more for "practical purposes" like target shooting, ringing steel, competitions, or just straight up hunting. More often than not, I think people in this niche of shooting get too caught up with how cool their gun looks, and all the more power to you, but for me, if it doesn't serve a legitimate purpose then it's a useless firearm/attachment IMHO.

Re: gotta stay cheap

Sorry to the person who created the thread, I don't want to hi-jack this thread and get it on an off topic discussion. it just seems everyone now days is saying how worthless the 10/22 is because it has tactical in the name. it gets old, thats what Ruger named it and sitting around whining about it or saying how they are or arent tactical doesnt change anything.

EDIT: not saying anyone here is whining its just the poor little gun is always getting bashed.

Re: gotta stay cheap

I think that a 22lr could be a tactical rifle. The SV99 sure qualifies as does the 10/22’s used by the Isrealies and in Vietnam. The gun can be used to takeout lights, guarding dogs, or for silent anti-personnel work. Probably more of an urban weapon thought.
