I’d like to give a shameless plug for a good friend and a great gunsmith up in Montana. I first met Damon Wrampe at the 2013 Sniper’s Hide cup. We were on the same squad and got along really well. This was the year I took Third place behind George Gardner (1st) and Francis Kuehl (2nd). Damon was in the process of moving to Montana and starting to do gunsmithing work.
Over these past few years I’ve had him do small gunsmith jobs for me like install bolt knobs, Cerakote, modify a trigger ever so slightly so it’d fit in a Winchester receiver among other things. His communication was always great, the turn around was exceptionally fast, his prices were reasonable, and most importantly the work was excellent.
This year I decided to ask him to be my gunsmith for the 2020 competition season. He quickly put a rifle together for me on a Bighorn TL3 with a Proof Research barrel chambered in 6.5X47, chambered up on his CNC machine. Fire control is the Geissele Super 700 two stage trigger. The optic depends on the match; I may choose my ZC420 with MPCT2 or now that we are in full production with the MPCT3, my ZC527 with that reticle will probably be my main scope. The stock I made myself, I’ll save that project for another detailed article for those interested.
Right off the bat this rifle started stacking bullets. I did my research here on the hide for a good starting load. From the reloading forum I selected Varget at 37.5 grains under a Hornady 140 ELD-M. One hole groups with this rifle are pretty easy and consistent, and I’m hesitant in saying that but it just flat out hammers. One of the things that makes this rifle even nicer to shoot is the highly effective muzzle brake from PVA, the “Shockwave” version bored out for .30 cal. Recoil is very mild. Total rifle weight is 19.8 pounds with everything.
Anyway, I just wanted to let the members here know about Damon Wrampe up in MT. His business is Nemesis Machine. You can find him here: https://www.facebook.com/Nemesis-Machine-Licensed-07-ffl02-sot-1611070939152630/ or at www.nemesismachine.com
If you are looking for exceptional quality, fast turn-around time, and superb accuracy, look no further. He offers a wide variety of actions, chassis, carbon stocks, accessories from PVA, Area 419, MDT, etc. as well a ramping up to offer pre-fit barrels on a pile of different actions. He also just happens to be a new dealer for some ultra-high-end scope company ya’ll might have heard of. Give him a call, see what he can do for your rifle gunsmithing requirements.
