I tried to do a search but it seems to not like sentences

I'm honest to goodness new at trying long range shooting. I have always used .17 and .22 with low power scopes and not more than 100 yard shots.

I just purchased a Tikka T3 Tactical Scout model in .308 and a friend is going to sell me his 5x-15 bushnell.

My question is do I zoom all the way to 15x to sight in at say 200 yards? If I do, will the shot be off if I zoom out to say 10x and take the same shot off a rest?

fyi, I would try myself but i haven't picked up the rifle yet. I was very interested in shooting 300-600 yards to learn more about shooting.

I did a couple google searches and got mixed information, mainly most are saying it should stay zero'd unless the scope is cheap? Is this bushnell too cheap for the gun?

Thanks for your time

Humbly
John

With a good scope you should be able to zero at any power . however it is a good idea after zeroing to check the scope on a low [ or high ] power setting and see if the point if impact [where the bullet hits] changes.

My Counter Sniper scope has varying zeros depending on which power range I am at in the scope. It very snipery like that.

Optics companies and those in 'the know'(not me

) recommend to ALWAYS zero your setup on the highest magnification. In theory there is less error sighting at highest vs. lower, this as mentioned much more noticeable on low dollar setups. Years ago I seen a gent with a Simmons 3x9 on a 25-06 where the POI shifted 3"+ @ 100yds going from 3X to 9X. Cheap GETS YOU cheap. Your Bushnell should be a bit better than the real low end chit.

For what its worth............
