What are peoples opinions on the New fad of reducing the grip of a 17/22 to the size of a 19/23 or a 19/23 to a 26/27 and why has no one done this to their 45 platform yet? Im quite interested in this possibly even buying one in the near future to try this. looking for experiences and recommended shops that can do the modifacations

My G17's grip is cut to G19 length, makes it a little easier to carry and doesn't print any more than a G19 does. It still runs the 17 round magazines just fine and is 100% reliable with the 15rd mags for the G19. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself as long as you pay attention to what you're doing. I did mine myself and it took me about 3 hours including re-stippling the grip and blending the new bottom of the magwell. I didn't cut mine straight across like most do, but left a small area on the back of the grip to set flush with the bottom of the magazine. It's not hard at all, you just have to go slow and pay attention to what you're doing.

Did the same thing.

I acquired a G22 police turn in for under 300, I pulled the 40 barrel and replaced with a 357 SIG barrel. CCW the 22 is not an issue with the barrel length, it is the grip length, so I had the grip cut down to G19 size. It works great.

Here it is with the G 19 on top for comparison.

Bowie Tactical Concepts has been doing cut downs for well over a decade. I'm sure ROBAR does it as well.

TTR

I've handled some of the BTC guns and trained under David Bowie at TDI. On top of cutting down the grip, some common mods are mag well cutouts, and stippling, like thespecialist's gun. The stippling method on BTC guns is aggressive but not uncomfortable and it's pretty novel. I prefer it to anything I've seen.

I plan on sending a couple of mine there for grip reductions at some point in the future.

All good but I like what thespecialist did to his

It gets a lot of looks and questions, especially from the die-hard Glock fans. They know something isn't right the instant they lay eyes on it. I think the only factory parts to this gun are the trigger mechanism, frame, and slide. The rest is a hodge-podge of parts that seem to make this damn thing run like a ..........well..........a Glock. Thanks for the compliment.

I swear I'm going to have the factory engraving milled off and engrave the slide with 19L just to fuck with the range ninjis that keep insisting it's a G19 frame with a 17C slide on it, though. :D

Frankly I don't see the point unless you have a 17 or 22 and have to conceal it and cannot get a 19 or 23. The same applies for a 19 or 23 and then the 26 or 27 size.

Is the bit of barrel length worth the time or money to cut the grip down?

If your filling the rear channel then reconfiguring the grip angle it makes a bit more sense but even then why not get the factory shorter grip?

Points to consider.

Do it. I have a G17 cut down to G19 grip length and I love it. I also have a G19, so it's not that I couldn't get a G19. I just like the way the G17 shoots more.

I don't see anything wrong with (well done) cut jobs, but I don't see much point, either. Why not just get a 19/23/32? 1/2" of sight radius and 30fps of velocity isn't game changing. DeFoor and others have proven repeatedly that a 19 is plenty accurate out to 50 yards.
