this may be a stupid question but here go's for the most part i have always shot bolt guns.in the last year i have been shooting AR's. maybe I'm being to picky or I'm a bad shot. if i have a scope on my rifle i can shoot MOA all day long in the prone position at 100 yards but when I'm standing and i have only my eotech on it at 100 yards my average group is about 3"

i get frustrated with a 3" group am i over reacting?

shooting prone with just the eotech no magnification i shoot 1.5" at 100 yards.

I agree.

Re: grouping question

I think the Eotech has a 1 MOA dot at 100 yrds so it will never be "precision" but get up alongside anyone with a full scope on a timed steel challenge and see just how fast you can move between targets and take them out. I was shoot 5 steels consistently in under 3 secs a couple of weeks ago and many were faster than me...2.5 secs for some. That is where the Eotech excels, speed in target acqn with broad vision assuming you keep both eyes open. If you want to tighten up a bit try a magnifyer on top.

+1 to that, not bad shooting at all. If you were still shooting 1 inch groups at 100 using that EOTech I would be jealous

Re: grouping question

You should shoot NRA highpower. A GREAT offhand shooter will keep 10 shots in the 10 ring (7" at 200 yds) with iron sights.

If you can consistently shoot 3" at 100 you would be in that catagory.

Very nice.

Re: grouping question

i had no idea i was getting frustrated with it and tought i would get some flack. i was thinking average group would be in the 1.5" to 2" range

as far as comps go i simply dont have time. i am self employed and the kids are at an age where im always running. i shoot roughly 3 times a month. before i got married i shot every day no joking every day and almost all of the shooting was .22 off hand. there was a time when i could throw a baby food jar in the air and hit them every shot. i tried a soda bottle the other day and i hit it 3 out of 5 times so i am a little rusty. thats with a marlin 880 i love that gun!

Re: grouping question

the shooter is only half of the equation here i built a good rifle walther 20" comp barrel with a matched bolt. viltor upper i would have to say that the rifle is 50% of it i have used several stock rifles and the grouping was no where near as good as this one. that's why i decided on building my own. net time i go out i will take photos of the grouping.

here is the rifle i have posted pics before

Re: grouping question

Not sure if you are shooting for fun, comp, or hunting, but there are not many competitions involving and AR that would require anything better than 3moa standing(except maybe Highpower) and as for hunting, hell 3 inches is a kill zone for just about everything bigger than a coyote. good shooting.

Re: grouping question

all of your comments have made me not be as paranoid about my shooting. next time i go i will take pics of my groups i am hoping it will be some time this week end.. we will see
