Is there something to look at that has the Harris footprint, doesn't flex and still has something like the 6-9 inch legs with tilt and fast deployment? I'd be up for testing out something new.

Some of you guys/gals must own botes.
I am new here and new to the sport.
Anything that you all talk about is a tool or a device, each tool/device can do the job it is designed for, some do it better, some last longer, some look better and some cost more, but, by an large, they get the job done.
$300 rifle or $30000 rifle.
I recently took a class, took my $$$$$ rifle and my $$$Atlas bi-pod, laid down in the dirt on my $mat, next to a whole line of people with $,$$,$$$,$$$$ tools/devices.
When asked to stand up and shoulder the rifle (Heavy azz rifle, looked good though) and shoot at 100yards, whilst gripping the bi-pod for support, guess what, it couldn't do it. Now the person next to me had a shitty Harris, not cant, no swivel, looked like a lost soul, did the job just fine.
When I got home, I spent hours cleaning and oiling the little balls and spring in my nice looking Atlas (and my $$$$$ heavy azz rifle), I think the Harris went to bet hung up wet.
Each tool has a job and place. No one tool does every job perfectly.
Just my 2c.

I was lost too. Hell, if he had the Arca rail he could have simply slid back his bipod and found a more compact support position that allowed him to grab the bipod and not have the weight work against him as much.

Lastly, I have to ask why would one "need" to do such an exorcise using the bipod in that manner anyway?

Actually if you read the contracts the military chose something else, the companies chose to image them with Harris,

The Mk22 cited the Atlas, but Barrett puts a Harris on it, because they can keep the difference in cost. When bipods are
"chosen" the Harris does not win but often ends up there because they can add it. I specifically called about images of the Harris on the Barrett after it was said Atlas won it. Look at the specs they are designed so a Harris cannot win, but here we are.

The reality is many of the posters on here are not worth even reading, I mean I pop my head and read about an Off-Hand at 100 with a Harris, seriously an offhand shot

As to shooting prone, those days are behind me. I can get down there, it's that getting back up that is a bitch and all of you have your days coming where you will be in the same boat. It is age and wounds received in whatever way, military, job setting or accident? Hope you are in as good a shape or better than I am and still plugging away at them. If it is a timed event, I will always be last as I don't move too fast.

I will admit that I need more practice. I only shoot to 1000 3-5 times a week [that is as far as our range goes] but do shoot out to a mile at the farm on occasion and can do that whenever I want to, it is just a 65 mile drive.

Maybe the Old Hippie can't afford an Atlas or whatever?
That is not the case. Both of the houses, the land, and all of my vehicles are PAID for. I owe no one anything, other than the taxes I pay and they are paid promptly. I have never paid a late fee or interest on any fucking credit cards, I prefer to use cash.
If I can't afford it, I will save a bit until I can.

Interesting. I have several chassis from MDT and have found both their product and CS to be excellent. I have also found @MDT_Josh to be extremely helpful and approachable.

I don't have a CKYE POD so I can't speak to that, however, I do know it is a product they acquired less than 2 years ago.

The VAST majority of their business is not bipods. To say they "suck at life" is not only an exaggeration, it's inaccurate enough to define you as a fucking drama queen.

I could, but it twisted. Couldn't tighten the nut down enough that it would not twist.
Now, before ya'll bash me, it was just one exercise in the course.
I had the wrong tools for the job in that particular excersize.

I get things have innovated, but honestly, 2 deployments using the integral HK bipod on the G3A3 and the spigot mounted bipod on the G22 AIAW (made by AI?) as well as 3 deployments using the Harris on various platforms (Mk12, M110, M24) has never left me feeling handicapped or that I missed because of the bipod/would have hit with a different one.

My main gripe with the HK was that it was too long and could be made to deploy while firing and the AI and Harris notched versions were sometimes too low/too high as far as notch adjustments in certain positions. If I want to nitpick, the rubber feet Harris uses don't adhere to fucking anything like you think rubber would. I made it work.

Having owned an Atlas and tried out some of the other newer brands, I still own Harris and a KAC, but the KAC is basically because its on a M110K1. If I need to take a kneeling/crouched/standing shot over terrain, I'm using the tripod anyways, so the 'super high' feature on some of them to me is meaningless. I never liked the flex or slow deployment time in the Atlas. Some other bipods are just way too fucking big for anything outside of range or specific gamer use as well as have multiple bearing surfaces that will just end up with dirt/grit in them.

Can't afford more bipod cuz they paid $400 for a pair of "PRS pants".
I admit to using Harris and I admit to having somewhere on the order of eight of them.
Why? Well I'm just old as dirt and Harris was the only game in town when I needed one.
I've tried three versions of Atlas over the years and (call me stupid) the learning curve was just to steep.
There are a lot of really solid bipods on the market today but my trials with Atlas taught me to stay stupid.
And that, LL, is why I use Harris. (probably worst excuse in this entire thread)

That same company offers a version with carbon fiber legs and it weighs exactly the same as its comparable and virtual twin from Harris.
It looks cool though.

And I forgot to mention that just like the Caldwell and other Harris copies, the legs are even narrower than the Harris.

I like my Harris bipods, but they really do suffer from a bit of hop unless I'm prone.

There are ways to eliminate it bench shooting, but shooting tactical style rifles free recoil kind of goes against everything we learn here.

Ironically it wasn't a bipod I ordered from them but sling swivel stud adapters. I suppose those aren't worth a shit either and there is better out there but they work for me and are easy to install.

No it’s not. It’s routinely mentioned The more unstable the supporting surface, the more you have to back off the rifle.

It’s only frowned upon when it’s used when you *should* be able to manage recoil without backing off the rifle. Which is what ends up happening to a lot of shooters. They are on a very stable prop and free recoiling. Then they don’t see their shots.

As with everything, context is important. No one said a Harris won’t work for PRS and in some instances might be the better choice.

No one is saying never back off the rifle. But to use the technique properly.

Use a light trigger. But not as a crutch for poor trigger control.

How do you like the cant function on the LRA? I don't like the way my CAL cants. There's no way to set tension on it, it really is a cant and lock system.
