I got this 1939 pre 64 model 70 that's marked E G pope and I'm confused cause it's got the accuracy but the barrel makers name was Harry Pope who did left hand twist rifling? Anybody?

Why would E.G. be before Pope on the barrel since his name was harry
Ill try to remember to look in my schuetzen clubs pope books to check but he did have other people who worked in his shop with him I believe, Ill try to see if that could have been the initials of one of his employees under his purview.

Not sure I remember a model 70 or 3006 being one of his platforms though. I figure pope more of the hiwall and 32-40 crowd; Id like to see more of the overall rifle!

I really appreciate any help I can get on this as an expert option is necessary, it shoots 1/4 moa and the rifling is left handed 8 groove !

Who EG Pope is.

HM Pope is famous with books written about him and his work.
This is how the gun groups at 120 yd with 190 gr sierra match with a varget load not my A game but a good measurement for a 75 yr old Pope barrel 5 shot group using a 6 -18 40 old Redfield scope

Great shooting, and nice rifle you have there . Good to see you so attached , funny how that happens when we find rifles that have soul . Congrats.

Nice. I like the pre-64 and pre-war Model 70s. If it was made in 1949, think that would be a transition model, the rear tang would be different than the actions built a year or two later. The transition action has the same rear tang as a pre-war action, IIRC.
