Has anyone built on a Hogan/POF 308 builder's kit?

A friend of mine has one that he wants to sell, it's black with the 11" hunter rail. Upper, lower, barrel nut, forearm part, and a bunch of little screws that hold it together (his words). Are there any special factors to watch out for with these upper/lower sets? Do I need a special wrench for the barrel nut, do they work better with DPMS vs Armalite barrel extensions, barrel profiles, etc? I don't want to purchase something, order a bunch of parts and then have a headache.

I think you'll need the Hogan/POF wrench if memory serves because I don't think that a basic AR-15 or alternate large-frame AR wrench of either DPMS/KAC or Armalite pattern will work on the proprietary heat-sink bbl nut setup that they use. Hogan sells them for ~$40 + S&H (just don't go to POF for one as I believe, at least in the past, they have commanded ridiculous prices well beyond the $40 realm).

As for the barrel/etc., they are primarily designed more along the lines of the DPMS pattern rifles than they are Armalite, HOWEVER, you can run either of them without issue provided you run their corresponding complete bolt/BCG. I saw one of the Hogan kits not long ago sporting a JP barrel/bolt combo and it was a hammer! Not the cheapest option, but a damned good one!

Also, you didn't mention it, but the Builder Kit should also have included the ambi bolt release kit too. If not...that'll be another ~$65 or so out of pocket.
