If someone would have asked me this morning what year the the Stenier 4-16x50 tactical scope came out. I would have said maybe like 2006 to 2008. whiffffff, Its funny how time can play tricks on our minds.

The big Steiner is already 4 generations old, and almost considered a historical relic in the optics world after less than a decade.

It seems like such a long time ago, there were only 3 or 4 choices if you wanted a FFP MIL/MIL scope. People calling it a fad, saying they could never sell enough of them. There would never be a market. "People just wont accept FFP." Sounds like a lot of the conversations we have around hunting scopes today. Now look where we are, you can't turn around without finding another FFP MIL/MIL tactical scope hitting the market. With all different price ranges covered from "just as guuud" all the way to "my coffee is 500 dollar per ounce"

I see threads asking about fixed 10x for 1k. Or low zoom range scopes, to get the price down, but keep the quality up. Here it is for you. The easter egg. If you can find one. Glass turrets durability and tracking ALL in a seal club sized package. Good hunting

I liked that scope, quite a lot. A couple of years ago, Doug had a very similar the P4Xi 4-16x56 on sale for $800 or so as it was closing out. It was an insanely good scope for under $1k, but it took a while to sell the whole batch he had.

I was absolutely shocked by that. I thought it would be gone in a day or two. In all the years I have been around this whole riflescope world, that was likely the best deal I can think of.

That is one of the reasons I am generally skeptical when someone asks for something with good fundamentals, but less feature rich. I would like that and a few other people would like that, but not enough to justify product development.

I liked the PX4, the one I had I would put it right in line with the XTRII or unfortunately for another big Steiner project, the TX5. I liked that they made the second rev indicator colored on the PX4 instead of removing it. I really liked the turrets on the old Steiner 4-16. Although when I first got one, I took the elevation turret all the way off, then spent about 30 minutes figuring how to get the second rev indicator to pull back in. I quickly realized some things my BurrisXTR, and Leupold MK4 were missing.

Those PX4i would have probably been gone in 3 days but you could get LRHS, then LRTS 4.5-18 for 750, and the 3-12 for 549 at the same time. Then a new hotness was coming out every month for about a year after that.

Have we reached a point where the options are becoming refined enough, the development will slow down? I was surprised that both Bushnell's and Athlon's new offerings were upgrades on an older product. Granted i don't have anything against the DMRII or Cronus design. I just expected it when Burris hit the market with something new, then Vortex.

I wouldn't know anything about it. I don't have enough experience with coffee to have any sort of discerning taste. As far as i can tell all coffee tastes like it was picked out of a turd, so I would have to be careful not to be a "just as guuuud" type fella there. If dudes say coffee that has actually been picked out a turd tastes better, who am I to argue.

Here is an old school FFP MIL/MIL I am pretty fond of. Another cheap Easter egg hunt. I have picked up 4 of these over the last few years for 300-450 dollars. Weaver Tactical 2-10x36 illuminated reticle, 50ft+ FOV reticle is plenty thick for close up coyotes, locking turrets, I think they are 20 or 21 ounces.


I really wish Nightforce would have made their 2.5-10 in a FFP configuration.

Funny you say that. Wall mart sells the cat shit coffee but the Gus selling the Amazon money shit coffee claim the wal mart stuff is sub-par.

Yep, thats why I didnt get one of the steiners and got the lrts instead. When I finally did get around to adding another rifle the CLny steiners were gone.

I had a few of those weavers, a few of the 3-15s and a 6-30. That was a great line of scopes back in the day.

I have one. The look on people's faces when they look through it and then find out what I paid is priceless.

Same here.

I've messed around with other optics in that price range and nothing else has stacked up. The EP-4 is probably the closest, but the steiner still wins.

I've had both the OG Steiner Military 4-16x50, and I have the P4Xi that replaced the Military model. People are blown away at how good the P4 is and the price tag. It sits on my 308 and is perfect for that application.

I worked at Burris when Beretta acquired Steiner and saw the development of the Military line from the beginning. They were machined and assembled in Greeley, CO, and the glass came from Steiner Germany.

I wish I would have bought a couple of the 3-12. I sold the PX4. Mine was probably a bad example but I sent it in and they didn't fix it. It took two guys to run, one guy to hold the rifle down, and another guy with chain tong to turn the elevation turret.

Thats pretty cool. The OG Steiner probably still has my favorite turrets I have used. I would have loved that turret setup on the XTRIII, but it limiting travel to 19.5 mils would probably be a deal breaker for some.

The amount of time spent to get the "feel" of the turrets just right was impressive. They measured the turning torque needed to move, and I saw them tested to the equivalent of 15 meters (IIRC) under water.
