I can't decide between these two scopes for my .260 build. I am looking for dependability/repeatability first, then overall durability, followed by quality of glass. I understand they both have about the same warranty. Between these two scopes which should I go with? On paper they both look great and I like the reticles in both scopes, so that's not much of a factor... Thanks in advance for some feedback!

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

My buddy has the IOR, and I have the HDMR. I would say go with HDMR unless you want illum rect (cant remember if IOR has one, but HDMR does not). Glass is close, as is eye relief, but I give the edge to HDMR on both. I like the rect better on the HDMR. The lockling knobs are nice on the HDMR as well. I cant remember the ele travel on the IOR, but I have over 30 mils on my HDMR (think it was 34 mils), which is nice. (with a 20 MOA base, I have 24 mils up left on my 338). Funny they advertised 26mils travel, but I have way more than that.

YMMV,

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

I just received a HDMR yesterday to replace my IOR 3.5-18X50 while it goes back to IOR for the second time.

I have not shot behind the HDMR yet, but so far I like what I am seeing. The edges do not look as clear as the IOR, but I can accept that if it holds up better.

I really like the MP-8 reticle on the IOR, and is why I bought it in the first place. I have the G2 in the HDMR, and it is a lot finer at higher power.

I have an IOR 3-18, it's a fine scope but the reticule is a little thick for my liking. If I were buying a new IOR it would be the 4-16 FFP.

Bushnell w/GAP reticule looks good to me, I'm waiting for their 3-12 FFP with that one in it for my 308. Looks like a perfect reticule for using holds without all the gibberish in the horus reticules.

Have you looked at the vortex razor? That's a damn good scope and I think Liberty has a few in stock with the new reticule.

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

I'm not digging the Razor. I think the knobs are too high and it is about $500 over budget. I am leaning toward the IOR because of the 42 mm objective, my barrel is a Kreiger Rem Var contour and I might go with the manners mcs-t. This build is going to be a multipurpose; hunting, target, work patrol bolt gun. I want to keep the profile slim and reasonably light wieght..

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

I have the 3.5-18 IOR and love the glass and accuracy of the turrets. I honestly was not very impressed with the Bushnell 6500 scopes for the price and am not looking to jump on the HDMR until they have some time to prove themselves.

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

I have the 3-18 IOR with the MP8 dot, like it, and haven't had any trouble yet. Have a HDMR on the way, but mainly because of the price and gap reticle. What are the common problems with IOR? I hope it won't happen... but after reading this thread I am a little concerned that mine could fail too.

Re: HDMR 3-21 or IOR 3.5-18 SH

i think the IOR gen 3 and below were the ones with problems. The new gen 4 is supposed to be free of problems.

i would go with the IOR it is a great Scope. 3-18x42 FFP MRAD

thank you
