Re: Helmet Ballast Advice
For everyone who is running a ballast set up on a Ballistic helmet, who is operationally active, i.e. deployed overseas. Whatever set up you chose, pick on that you can easily get the weights in and out of with out ripping the whole thing off every morning as the sun comes up. Also chose a place inside your gear to put the counterweights and do so every time so you can easily get them loaded back up when you have to remount your NVDs as darkness approaches. Its always good to get as much weight off of your Helmet as possible when you don't need to festoon the thing with every accessory under the sun (no pun intended).
Remember all of this stuff is supposed to help. Make your gear work for you.
With something like a Bump Helmet that you are only running at night for just viewing and hunting, it isn't a huge deal to be able to remove your weights unless you are using your base jump for other activities. My counterweights on my bump helmets stay mounted all the time.
Just some food for thought.
