Night Vision Helmets! Helmets everywhere! Which is best for NODs?

Are these helmet shrouds compatible with Notoros mounts?

I have a TATM mount, nothing else but figured getting a helmet first is a good gateway. Would like to know if its simply plug and play with this helmet or additional cost add ons. Back in PVS4 days things were simpler.😁
I’m running the rhino 2 titanium arm with a dovetail adapter and it locks up solid into the Denmark shroud like a champ. No wiggle at all.

I thought I saw someone mention it was taking forever to get their helmet from Denmark. Wanted to update everyone that I contacted Jonas Olesen (through email) who runs the Protection Group Danmark ApS and sells the PGD-ARCH ballistic helmet
I have put off ordering this helmet with concern about ship times and customs issues coming from Denmark, but when I contacted Jonas he said they had my color in stock and it would ship out the next day (after placing the order there was a page that said I had to sign for something, but Jonas informed me that was not necessary). Order was placed on June 30th and arrived on July 6th from Fedex, in fact, he used Fedex in Denmark so I was able to track the entire way, that is less than a week to go through customs and everything. Very impressive.

But even more impressive is the helmet itself, this "looks" to be a very solid helmet with excellent fit and finish and I can agree it is extremely comfortable as theHorta had mentioned, padding is very nice with good adjustment straps and unique BOA cable system for fit (I am already familiar with the BOA system (made here in Colorado) as my Zamberlan Lynx boots utilize BOA). Until I get shot in the head with a pistol (which hopefully never happens) I am unable to tell you how well this helmet will do ballistically, but Protection Group has information on their website to attest to this. I did not buy the helmet solely for ballistic protection, but mostly for comfort and ability to support NV and Thermal, etc and to this end I think it is going to perform extremely well.

This last photo is the only “blend” I can find where the velcro is a bit wrinkled, I’m assuming I can put it in the sun for a bit and reshape it.

@SkyScrapin and @wigwamitus are putting together a NV and Thermal setup for me but that is still a couple months out for my timing so will try to report back then...

Another data point for those interested: placed the order on 3/16, received 6/26. $382.50 shipped. Came with only one set of rails (ARC-but-not-really), PGD velcro patch, and rail accessories.

Comfortable, heavier than expected but no pain after 2+ hours
BOA retention system is solid.

Did anyone find a source for drop-in ARC rail replacements? Would prefer not to glue or drill new holes if possible.

I got the MC version which came with the dipped rails as well so I haven’t swapped mine out for new rails. Only thing I have installed on the rails is some peltor arc rail mounts for ear pro. The included hardware with the ear pro mounts was tight in the center channel but with a small piece of wood dowel and a rubber mallet I got them situated just fine.

My ComTacs Vs did not fit right what so ever using their Peltor adapter with factory branded Peltor arc rail mounts. When I swapped out their fake arc rail the Peltor arc rail adapter (without their adapter) had a much more secure ear seal.

Using their fake arc rails with the Peltor adapter it's not hearing safe what so ever. Their Peltor adapter totally changes the angle of the earpro and messes it all up.

Damn, I must be lucky then. My comtacs fit me the same on the helmet as they did for the plain headband. I didn’t use the PGD mount adapters, I figured I would try the arc hardware first and it was all good. If the arc hardware didn’t work I would have tried the PGD adapter hardware next and if those didn’t work I’m not sure what options would be after that.

Where did you get those, Keel Haul? I’ve been looking for something and had not seen those for some reason.
Unity tactical my man. Order with confidence.

Right on. I have the same on my Wendy. Nice stuff. Although the Wendy 3.0 rails suckkkk

Thanks Keel, so all I need is that unity kit and the stuff that came from pgd with helmet correct?
I didn’t use any of the accessories that came from PGD to mount those, it was all unity hardware which was included in the box. Since my rails were dipped, the channel was a bit snug for the piece that fit inside the helmet rail. I had a small piece of wood and a mallet to persuade the adapter to slide into the rail. Didn’t take much, just a tap or three to get it where I wanted. Not sure if it will be as snug for non dipped rails.

edit for typo

Got a TW out of the PX.

Not so much for NVG but work stuff.

I wanted the face shield and mounts for Ops Core Amps.

Face shield requires V3 rails to plug in.

Went to mount the Ops Core arms the other day and it appears they are incompatible with V3 rails.

Thinking for work the eyes are more better protected than ears so it looks like Amps will be range toy only.

Damn you Team Hillary!

That was only a quick look, need some more looking at the two pieces of gear together.

If anyone knows otherwise or of an adapter please advise.

Picture of my hat should be a page or so back, page 10, post 495.

You just need the adapter to run the amp arms, they are compatible with both the 2.0 and 3.0 rails. You have two options, unity makes a set and they are like $29 if I recall, and then shooters101 makes the other option.

I like this helmet a lot, but I hate that I can´t throw the arc rail adapter that the include with my peltors/howards doesnt seal right even if I bend the metal arcs.
The arc rail is bowed and the original arc rails are just straight, so the seal is more stable. As this rails are bowed, the seal is not good and you have to bend the metal rails, but it is not enough to make them work... Any tips?

You have to swap out the fake arc rails for real ones if you want to use the Peltor arc rail adapter, no way around it. It's unsafe using the fake rails with Peltor arc rail adapter.

You could possibly ditch the Peltor arc rail adapter for a different brand.

File down part of the Peltor arc rail adaptors. I did it and it fits nice and tight and gets the good seal for the peltors. I initially tried the PDG arc rail peltor adapter and that just didn't give me the seal I needed.

No need to replace, the existing shroud works fine.
It sure does. My Wilcox mount locks up tight.

That said, I rarely leave well enough alone. I wanted a metal-to-metal interface, and I wanted to have a good lanyard solution. I bought a Wilcox L4 WMS shroud, liking the idea of being able to move the lanyard position around. This is my first Wilcox shroud. It’s not going to fit without some minor modifications.

The holes line up fine. But the PDG mount uses screws from the front, which thread into inserts in the helmet. The back side of the inserts are covered with the Velcro that holds the pads in. The PDG screws are much larger than the little screws with washers that come with the Wilcox shroud. The Wilcox hardware is designed to go in from the inside, at least for this shroud, and thread into nuts held in place by the shroud mounting tabs.

The PDG screws are larger than the holes in the Wilcox shroud. In addition, the heads of the PDG screws are larger than the slot in the bottom of the lanyard mount.

There are likely many ways to make this work, but I see two that are most practical. 1) cut holes in the Velcro to pass the Wilcox screws through the threaded inserts in the helmet and use the rest of the Wilcox hardware. Biggest downside is probably the play between the small screws and the large PDG inserts. Tightening it down would probably keep it from moving, until it’s bumped at least. 2) Enlarge the mounting slots in the Wilcox shroud and reuse the PDG screws. Dremel the lanyard mount to clear the diameter of the PDG screw head. The height of the PDG screw head looks like it’s ok. Downside is cutting on these new parts, making them suitable for this application alone.

I will probably go with option 2.

Maybe a different shroud would have been more of a direct bolt-on, but in case anyone is thinking of going this way I wanted to share my learning.

Wow!

Received mine 25-OCT while we were away on Lesbian Island in Greece, less than a week after order (ordered from Greece).

It’s legit OC. Here are unboxing photos. It is not packaged well — just a helmet in a box with no additional padding other than the OC storage cover — but it fared well and it IS a ballistic helmet, afterall.

Better deal than I got buying a Team Hillary out of the PX and my PX deal was a good one for Team Hillary going prices.

Would have preferred OC and likely would have opted for small/medium vs the medium/large i now own.

Oh well woulda, coulda, shoulda........either way I have a solid helmet and my use is for training and oh shit only.

Been waiting for one of you guys to send me some NV gear to see how it locks up with TW shroud because you are curious...... promise I will send your stuff back.......

wondering how this helmet compares to the PGD? Does it need a pad/cushion upgrade?

The included pad and retention system is HORRIBLE! The PGD helmet is 1,000x more comfortable and the retention system is 100x better. I think the included system with the OC is meant to be used on enemies as a form of enhanced interrogation.

On the bright side, the PGD pads and boa retention system can be purchased separately and *should* be a drop-in replacement.

Guess I’ll wait and see what BPZ does for black friday on the PGD — was gonna buy broski’s helmet in the px but I was too slow on the decision making

got my 1st PVS 14 this past week

Just started using mine that I have had for a year or so. Fits my head much better and much more comfortable then my OC with updated pads even.

Couldn't remember, can we bolt legit ARC rails directly on? Only complaint I have with it really. Weight is a non-issue with how comfy it is.

no you cant, you need to file down the adapter to the point it fits
