I just got my barrel and bolt back from having some work done and the trigger is broken off! I checked online and I can't seem to find out if this part can just be replaced or the whole trigger assembly needs to be replaced instead.

Rifle is a new Remington 700 AAC-SD. It has the X-Mark Pro trigger.

Another question- has anyone ever encountered damage in shipping like this? Who is ultimately responsible? The shipper or UPS? Anyone ever file a claim with UPS?

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

I have had several claims against UPS for damage to high end audio equipment. I had to fight with them but they eventually paid the claims. In my case, I had insurance above the normal amount. Good luck!

This!! You can waste a lot of time and energy trying to get satisfaction from them...hell, you might even get it after a good, long wait...but it isn't worth it.

I know it sucks to have something in working order one minute only to have the brown truck driving, box-handling gorillas do a number on it the next minute and have it come out looking like that! It would pi$$ me off royally too, but your best bet is to find a quality aftermarket trigger, replace the X-Crap Pro unit that got broken, and pack/plan better next time to try to avoid these problems.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

You can get a new Xmark or Aftermarket from Brownells or midway. As said before getting a claim through UPS is like trying to bleed a turnip. Grit your teethe and pony up the cash for a timey or basix.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

I did not pack it the gunsmith that did the job did. When I packed it and sent it it arrived intact to the gunsmith. This is coming back to me after a gunsmith job.

Why can't I just replace the broken piece? Remington has no warranty parts available?

OK for the sake of argument- Timey or Basix? Which and why? I don't want something that can't get dirty or is finicky like I have heard Jewells can be.

Timney Tactical Trigger?

Replacing a trigger assembly is something I can do?

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

I got a basix this last time cause a friend had a spare and I cannot find the damn Jewell I ordered. I kinda like it its set up real nice breaks nice and has a full shoe. Jewels are nice but the small shoe kinda irks me a bit.

Its not really a warranty issue and as far as the broken piece its safer to replace the whole assembly than piece by piece unless your qualified.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

Well, my first plan of attack would have been to call remington and tell them the trigger broke off...

Then i would have just bought a new trigger...

This is a lesson in using local resources. I dont know of a single place in the states that doesnt have a good local gunsmith. Your gun isnt going to end up broken when its riding in your passenger seat.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

even if i bought a new trigger, id still file a claim. but i hate to say it, if it had been packed better, it should not have broke. ive shipped glass and never had an issue with damages.

I looked for someone local to do this job. Then I researched and found someone with good referrals. The job was done very well, unfortunately the packing job seems to have been lacking or else UPS was ridiculously rough. Although the package shows no real sign of trauma. I have not been able to reach the gunsmith because of timezone issues. I'm interested to hear his response. I'm not sure if he needs to contact UPS or me.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

just in case you didnt know. every package ups ships is insured for $100 in the cost of the shipping. adding additional over that costs extra. so at the very least you have $100 incentive to file a claim. thats the way it was last i checked, i cant say i have asked in the past few years though

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

Good luck with them. I had a rifle shipped back that was well padded and packaged in a hard case but despite that, it must have been thrown or dropped on end because the rear tang of the receiver was driven into the Badger DBM magwell (which was wrapped in a separate box behind it) with such force that it destroyed it and scuffed the finish. An investigator showed up, took photos and said "no problem, shouldn't be an issue to pay for it". Called 3 weeks later to follow up and they refused.
I worked for them one summer so I know - if a truck was late getting unloaded, they put a couple of us into the trailer and told us to throw everything out to make the deadline.

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

Save your energy on filing a claim, just post in the WTB section that you are looking for a trigger and you should be able to get one from $40-$55.
I just sent off a barrel action through UPS and it arrived fine, but I also had the trigger guard installed, and I tripple wrapped the ends of the rifle in cardboard in the chance they dropped it on end.
Long story short I would be talking to the one who shipped it to you because I don't think they packed it good enough.
Just saying,
SScott

Re: Help broken trigger!! UPS claim?

I believe the X-mark trigger is prone to break right where yours broke, mine did that while I had my finger on it about to pull it. I called the guy who I deal with to see if he had any laying around and he had several.....all broken in the same place. It was probably going to happen one way or the other, best advice given here replace it with something better. If you can get UPS to pay for it so much the bettr.
