I've just recently began shooting the dot drill and have a couple questions.
The first thing I'm wondering about is the dot size I'm shooting at, the 1/2" dots. My 3-12x Bushnell's retical pretty much completely covers the dot, it makes it quite challenging. I've also started using a log book, and it's nearlly impossible to "call" my shots when I can barely see the dot.
Should I use the larger dots? Maybe 3/4". Can I reasonably expect any useful feedback by shooting at the smaller dots?
I don't feel that I'm doing too bad, I just want to get the most from the drill. And what magnification are you guys using?

Here is today's target. I def screwed a few up, some called. I'm also trying to get consistent at prone.

Re: Help with dot drill

You can dial the knobs over left then down one and hold the crosshairs to compensate. You should then be able to see the dot. Work on the basics and make sure you do them every shot.

Was this prone or off the bench? Bipod and rear bag?

Re: Help with dot drill

Zac,
you've got to help us out for us to help you out. Give us details about your rifle, Ammo, the atmospheric conditions during the drill. These things all matter. Is the rifle capable of shooting a half MOA? Is the ammo a quality match grade ammo with proven sub MOA groups from this rifle? Fill out the bottom of the target for just this reason. You may have all that data in your log book but by looking at the target we know nothing. Give us some details to go on. There are plenty of guys here who can help you in this endeavor. Trust me, It can be frustrating one minute an jubilation the next. Welcome to the addiction.

Re: Help with dot drill

Ok, here's a few more details.
Gun- Centurion Arms DMR upper, LMT lower with SSA-E trigger.
Optic- Bushnell 4200 3-12x
Ammo- 69 gr Nos CC, with 24 gr Varget.
It'll shoot .4 on a good day, .6 most of the time and .75 without really trying.
The wind was from right to left, 6-10 mph.
I'm going to try holding off the dot, I think that'll help quite a bit. I know I'm still working on my prone fundamentals but I think not being 100% confident in target aquasition is hurting me.
I'm deffinatly open to any and all input, thanks again.

Re: Help with dot drill

Okay, here's my 2 cents worth, take it for what it's worth. 10 of 15 rounds hit high of POA. 2 were on plane but looks like you over corrected or pulled your shot. 2 were low and 1 way low and right.

I would look at your cheek weld, is your reticule centered and are you clear edge to edge? I don't think loading the bi-pod is the problem, possibly forearm tension while breaking the trigger. But my money is on your eye and the reticule not being in the same spot every time. Bushies are unforgiving for that in my opinion.
