A lot of guys here know that I'm a big fan of the Hensoldt scopes. I really love the sight picture, it's been said 100 times before, but it's just so easy to get behind. The glass is clear, clicks are great and tracking is spot on....etc etc.

Anyway, I have my scopes out of their mounts right now doing some general housekeeping, waiting for a Spuhr mount and moving some glass and rings around between rifles. It seemed like a good time to take some pictures and answer some questions I've been asked both publicly and in PM. All scopes are set to mechanical middle so the elevation knobs are a little higher than they'd be on the rifle.

The pictures are nice, not the best, you'd think I'd find a decent dust cloth....oh well, here they are. I need to work on my depth of field as well, I wish they were a little clearer front to back.

Front 2 scopes are 4-16x56 and the rear two are 3-12x56. Not much length difference.

One of the reasons I like the Hensoldt so much is the compact package that it comes in.

I actually own very few guns and scopes, what I do own is very nice. No ARs, no fancy pistols, no "safe full of guns". I've made the decision of quality over quantity.

The Premier 5-25 is what I sold to get my first Hensoldt. I was tired of the huge optic and decided I wanted smaller and lighter. Come to find out the 4-16 was everything I needed in a tactical scope.

Not yet, all are mildot. I'd like to see the NH1 but I'm actually not one of those guys that feels handicapped by a mildot reticle. I believe in getting one system and learning to use it, they are all capable of outstanding results, if the driver knows what to do with them. KISS wins the day when guys start to get in a hurry and forget what they're doing.

Jason, if you dont mind me asking, what are they sitting on top of, I know you have those 2 sentinel builds... what about the other two? Just curious...

Good point, me too. I use NF mildot and basic mildot in all my glass, but darn that NH1 looks good in pics if I were to ever get a Hensoldt... Mark

I'll post pics when they are mounted, so why not. 1 is on my 243 Surgeon/Sentinel, 1 is on a 243 A5 Surgeon, 1 will be going on my 308 built by Skunkworks and the other is going on a 223 SPS Tactical

For now. 4-16s on the 243s.

The 260 Sentinel build was sold....I'm a 243 guy.

Wow...Thats great.

Also if you want to work with your depth of field a little bit more, raise your F stops up along with shooting in AP mode. Just a quick way to get a lot in focus.

Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! trying to fight between the Victory tactical and the Hensoldt 4-16 and Im pretty sure following this thread will end the battle.

Great pix Jason the SPUHR will be saweeet!...Im in the process of having to see if Hakan can make me a pair of those mounts.

i had the (un)fortunate experiance of looking and shooting a surgeon with a 4-16 hendsoldt, now all my scopes look like crap.
i am really envious of you guys, for now.

What's your method for mounting the scopes (and insuring they're not canted)? I've tried the feeler gauge method but can't get it to work well. With 4 Hensoldt's I'm sure you've got some practice at getting them on their straight

I level the rifle on the kitchen table facing a doorway, then I have a door fame in the living room that is perfectly plumb. I line the posts of the reticle up with it.

I use the feeler gauge method, it takes some practice to get it just right, but I've shot to 1k plenty of times and can't blame my misses on a canted reticle. I'm really looking forward to trying the Spuhr mounts and the included tool, that looks slick.

What's the issue you're having with the feeler gauge?

they still are for most of us commoners (i.e. me) we cant all afford to have $15000 worth of optics just waiting for $1500 worth of mounts to put on our $4000+ rifles.

It's funny that so many people mention the money involved. We all have our vices. As stated above I likely have less toys than most. I don't smoke, drink very little, travel even less....with no fancy watches, an "old" car, no boats or other money draining hobbies.....I can afford nice glass.

I lead a simple life, that's all.
