Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

Jason, if you dont mind me asking, which do you like more, the 3x12 or the 4x16 for LR shooting, Im used to a 3.5x15 NF for shooting at 1000+ and will be moving up to a Henny soon enough, can only afford one, so I would like to make the right decision, I believe the 3x12 has more Elev. adj. right? how do they compare in <span style="font-weight: bold">every</span> aspect?

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

im not Jason, but im fairly certain he prefers the 4-16 at the moment. But Nate and I both prefer the 3-12, we shoot them on everything from 223 all the way up to 300WM.

The reasons we like the 3-12 a bit more are the elevation travel, image quality, field of view, and its a little more compact than our 4-16.

We have also taken the 3-12 out to about 1500 yds and not felt hindered.

Thanks for the answer Austin, I asked you the same in the shoutbox last night, but did not receive a reply... How much elev. Adj. do you get with the 3-12, and how much for the 4-16?
Thanks

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

4-16 is right @ 20-22 mils, the 3-12 is 30

if you notice in that picture of "our response to Tuscondave" all of those are 3-12s with the exception of the PSR scope which is a 6-24 FFP, its the second one in from the camera

Thanks for the reply, you guys will get a call from me in Jan, as I should have enough saved by then. I think Im going to try out one of those 3x12's .
Thanks again,

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

Felipe,

Just keep in mind that we do not sell direct. You can call and talk to us all you want about the technical aspects of the scope, but we cant sell direct to you. We don't undercut our dealers sales and profits.

One of the reasons I like the Hensoldt so much is the compact package that it comes in.

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

If I'm understanding this correctly Hensoldt, S&B and Premier Reticles all have excellent glass and internals. Is one brand significantly better than the others in glass or internals? Or is this more of a status thing? or what exactly?

Obviously its a status thing...

No seriously I don't have any Hensoldt (yet) but have looked through and shot with S&B and Premier.

Little differences between the S&B and Premier made me set my pocket book on a S&B 5-25...

Now with the hensoldt, the information I've gathered from what I know to be reliable and well informed individuals here on the hide is that it is "preferred" over S&B and Premier. Some opinions from these sources stated that the ease of obtaining a good sight picture, the overall sharpness and clarity of the glass, and the compact size are some of the points that the Hensoldt offers.

The way I see it is the majority of shooters here that have used S&B and practically all the other scopes buy a hensoldt and don't want to go back to the others. Not necessarily everyone but most.

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

^^^ Pupdawg summed it up very well. ^^^

Don't get me wrong. S&B, Premier, Nightforce, Vortex HD all have glass and tracking that is just fine for tactical shooting, they won't hold you back. I like the extra little bit that I think the Hensoldt gives and the easy eye box is the big winner for me. I'm a terrible weak side shooter, my left eye doesn't like me one bit and getting a good sight picture left handed is tough for me with any scope. With the Hensoldt I can make it work, with the Vortex HD that has the most sensative eye box for me of the ones mentioned above I had a real hard time shooting weak side. So, wanting every little gain I could get, I went Hensoldt.

When I go to use the feeler gauge method I either shove too many in (and "lock" the feeler gauge in place when I tighten down the rings), or too few and I get the scope to 'rock' against them on one side or the other. I'm having a tough time finding the correct number of gauges that are tight enough to hold it level, but loose enough to remove. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?</div></div>

I'm going to be mounting a couple scopes this week, I'm going to try something that might solve your issues, I'll let you know if I come up with an improved way.

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

To the Hensoldt guru's- how do you clean the lenses? Acetone and cotton like in the USO video? Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a special coating that I would remove before I did it, and I do need to clean them, it was snowing yesterday when I was shooting, believe it or not!

They are...I may try a pair of Near or Seekins to get it a bit lower.

This is an interesting point which I was trying to ask bm11 about the other day if he had shot support/weak side with it yet. I have a very hard time with getting a sight picture left hand shooting. That would make a very good consideration if it worked better for me.

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

I use Acetone on my Premier to good effect.

Granted I use isopropyl alcohol at work when cleaning fiber optic cables to also good effect.

Re: Hensoldt Glamour Shots and some general info

Since you stated "general info" in your title, and apologies if this has been covered, but other than the turrets what was changed on the Zeiss Diavari to make the Hensoldt? They "look" identical. - thanks

I'm not to educated on the Diavari, but the ones I've seen have 50mm objectives and 30mm tubes. I'm also not sure they are available in mildot. The 6-24x72 has 34mm tubes I think, but that's the only one.

This is what was stated when that question was asked on another thread.

But the glass is still the same, just different coatings. The Diavari is made right along side the Hensoldts </div></div>

NOOOOO...take the horse hair brush that was in the little tool kit, fog the lenses up with your breath then use the brush to "brush" them clean.
