I can't help but wonder what the cause of this was. A wind shear along the mountain ridge lines causing a loss of control? Terrible accident either way. :(
This actually wasn't that bad of an accident. All five people on board, got out. Which means none of them were critical. Injured yes, but critical no. Too small of an LZ for ANY wind. Which, unfortunately, is quite common in that area. They operate regularly there and just didn't see it.

I was watching blancolirio (Juan Brown) and he went over what he could see and it looked as though the main rotor caught the oak tree at the south end of the turnout. He's an interesting guy. He covers all kinds of aviation on his youtube channel. A lot of times though, he gets asked about accidents.

Took me a while to warm up to Juan, but I’ve grown to like him. Sharp guy, knows his stuff and stops before he crosses the line into speculation.

Before, during, and almost done. Cgr-30P and 30c engine monitor. Stratus Esgi with adsb in/out. IPad mount for foreflight and new rubber flooring. Zero squawks on engine run. Pretty happy with how it's turning out.
It's no 30g Garmin glass panel but it'll get me there and back......if I can afford the fuel🙄

I’m a buddy with one of the pilots on IG, he said everyone is OK and they’ll be back in the air eventually. I didn’t ask what happened as I didn’t feel it was appropriate to do so at the time (I messaged him the day of the accident as soon as I heard about it). Sometimes crap happens, I’m just glad everyone will be OK.

Landing a helicopter is supposed to be like pizza and sex anyways, when it is good it's great, and when it is bad, it is still pretty good. Just some perspective. 🤣
From a great Naval Aviator mentor of mine (RIP Capt. Bill Johnson): "The three things that help keep a Naval Aviator's life centered are a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement... On a night carrier landing in marginal weather, you have the opportunity to experience all three at once."

We dropped to $6.39/gal (down from almost $7) the last load of fuel we got, so that’s been nice. I’m getting several hours a week of instruction time, and getting ready to start hitting the “heavy” stuff with one of my students (solo, solo XC, and night), so that’s exciting.

We’re working a festival this weekend as well, so hopefully that’s busy. I need to get my 5hrs of dual in to satisfy the Robinson SFAR for PIC in the R44 in the next week or two, as we’re also scheduled to work a 10-day festival in mid-October and the boss doesn’t relish the idea of doing all of that flying by himself, hahaha. I’ll snap a few photos today and tomorrow and post some up.

What part of the country?? 7.85 in Northern Komifornia. Paid 7.25 @ KPIH. Bought my plane this time last year. Paid 5.00 a gallon for the first fill up in Montana. As usual, my timing is impeccable. 🙄
On the plus side the new engine monitor I put in is saving me a solid 3.5-4 gph.

Both of my planes have been down, planning on upgrading the Extra next year and the Lancair has been running hot, can't wait to get back to flying regularly a few times a week.

IO-520, I’m average like 15GPH ROP
I'm a relative newby but being injected can't you run lop?? My dad is an I.A/A&P...he has his reservations about running lop. His thoughts are the fuel savings aren't worth the risk. I'm just curious what others do and why. What are you running for an engine monitor?? What plane?? If you don't mind me asking. Mine is a Cherokee 235B.

yup, easier with balanced injectors and a analyzer, but the plane flys pretty low and for short hops so ROP

Mine
