My brother usually looks to me for advise on his gun accessory needs but he is asking me for a suggestion for a 20 MOA base and rings for his flattop AR platforms and I just don't know much about them . I don't own an AR so can't speak from personal experience. I told him though I could get some good input from the Hide.

I have seen several setups where the base and rings are one solid unit but don't know which to recommend. He tends to want to buy premium accessories but not over the top.

Any suggestions that I can pass on to him?

Thanks,

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

I really like the Nightforce Unimount, as it provides the required features and functions in a single part.

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

I'll second the Nightforce Unimount. 1.375" height gives just enough room for the bikini covers to slip on my 50mm NF F1 as mounted on the Larue Stealth upper.

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

Thanks to all for the help.

I see several good options here. I'll pass this link over to my brother if he hasn't already seen it.

This is what I like about the Hide. Lots of first hand experience vice reading the vendors promo materials.

Thanks again.

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

jimmyk,

He's shooting a 6.5 Grendel so he is looking at 1000+ yards and doesn't want to adjust to the outer limits of his scope.

Probably could live without a 20 MOA base, but if available, why not?

Thanks again.

Now I see why.

Gentlemen:
I never expected such immediate and considerate responses to Bro's inquiry on my behalf, and I am ever so grateful. You guys are the best!! Yes, I am the neophite brother(older) to whom I refer all thing optical to Macdaddy. He has spent a fortune of my money, but I have no buyer's remorse and always appreciate the education. Now, what we have here is actually a DPMS custom shop 24" fluted flatop upper in 6.5 Creedmoore (not the Grendle that he so covets). DPMS really did some of thier best work on this thing, and well the should cause 6 weeks turned into eight months. O well. I will not bore you with the Iron Ridge Arms billet reciever, the PRS stock or the Geissele match 2# trigger. I lied. Every response has extreme merit. My needs are to be able to utilize the American Rifle Company rings(thx bro)on a 20 or so moa base given this should be a serious F class shooter. At least in my mind?? Will start with a 44mm tube but want the latitude to mount a 50mm. It appears that the Badger very well may be the best application for my needs. I had sort of leaned toward this, but needed the validation from the serious shooting community. Thank you and good shooting...SCRDNEK

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

Please have a look on www.Spuhr.com and download the catalogue and the "scopemount features.pdf" and have à look.
Its the most advanced secure scopemount system so far, with loads of possibilitys that no competitors have....

Tnvc.com does likely have both o and 20 Moa version in stock

With T1 mounted five o'clock.

One piece as you asked for, level built in to the mount.

Extreme visiability of the scopes knobs, plus the possibility to hang on any kinds of assesories almost anywhre you like on the mount.

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

Alright got it in the mail (thanks libertyoptics and ADM). Seems to clamp very well and the machining is as good as anything else I've seen. Scope is extended 2" forwards and height is about 3/4" give or take so should clear back up sights.

I should have a range report tomorrow (I'll try removing it and re-attaching it to see what kind of zero changes I get).

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

msflyer..the oddmounts look really good!!..To bad I am stuck on the ARC rings, which demand a separate base. They claim, and macdaddy confirms, that they will not damage or leave ring marks on the tube. This has been a fun ride and I appreciate all the assistance...Thx for the input!!..scrdnek

that's my DPMS SASS .308

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

Alright took it to the range today and tried it out. It now has ~15 mils of up from a 200 yard zero which is laughably overkill for a 16" 308 but probably nice on something like a grendel. I also took it off the rifle several times to fiddle with the clamp tension and it did not lose zero.

Re: High Quality base and rings for AR platform

I like my Nightforce Unimount, it has 20MOA built-in and is very lightweight. I remove my scope each time I clean my AR and it returns to zero without fail. I plan to replace the NF lightweight rings on my 6.8 with the Unimount once I get around to it. I've used Larue, Trijicon (Bobro), and ADM, and they all worked fine I just prefer the NF.

Here a photo on my MSTN upper:
