hodgdon superperformance powder for 308 ..1000 yard rifle

Ok... Im thinking of trying this powder out . The factory superperformance are fast out of my gun. I'm currently shooting 44 gn varget 175 smk.
1. is the superperformance heat sensitive?
2. performance
3, consistency?

anyone try it?

my 44 gn varget 175 smk load is 43 moa to 1000 ... I have hit clays at that range.. any info on superperformance?

You might check with Hodgdon to see if they'll tell you anything....

Superformance seems to be in the 4350 burn rare area, and would therefore not work too well with .308 bullets weighing less than 190 grains or so.

Hornady is marketing various calibers (chamberings) of ammo that they're calling "Superformance" but that doesn't mean that they're using Hodgdon's Superformance powder in each of them.

For the .308 loads, they're going to be likely using one of the other new fangled "hold my beer and watch this" type powders. Maybe CFE223, I would guess.

I was considering the same thing a while back. From my research I learned that "superformance" ammunition uses a variety of powders to supercharge the velocity, and the "superformance" powder is just one of those mixtures. The powder is marketed for specific loads/calibers which can be found on their web site, and they highly discourage experimentation for calibers not specifically listed (and 308 is not listed). Maybe that was just for the lawyers, but I ended up dropping it. About the same time I discoverd a thread or two on Alliant's 2000MR powder. Guys were claiming improved velocity, so I tried it. Worked for me and increased my velocity on the same bullet (SMK 155 Palma out of a 20" gas gun) by 100 FPS from 2675 with 46 gr Varget to 2775 with 50 gr 2000MR. Kind of accomplished the same thing, so I went with it. Yes, I did say 50 gr...its a very fine powder which meters and packs very well, and this is not a compressed load.
My load, if you are interested, is:
LC LR 07 Brass
50 gr 2000MR
Fed GMM 210 Primers
Loaded to mag length
