Re: Hornady match hpbt on game?
They work, so do the Amax's. I've dropped animals with them both and had no trouble with either.
The key here, over and over, is to put the bullet in a killing zone. Well placed shots kill animals quickly, magic bullets don't exist.
Jacob Bynum from Rifle's Only published a very direct commentary about the use of match bullets on game, especially thin skinned game like deer, mulies, fox, coyote, etc to discuss that very synopsis.
I wrote a thread summarizing commentary from my father about the last 8 (at the time, almost 3 years ago now) deer he had killed with a single round from a cast lead, subsonic rifle load.
ETA: Here's that thread on cast bullets and hunting.

Interestingly, I had a similar discussion with an old combat pistol shooter/competitor yesterday on this topic and his comments were right in line with my dad's.
