Hornady Superformance Ammo: .308Win 165gr GMX (Gilded Metal Expansion)
Rifle: Custom Savage PrecisionTargetAction, 26" Bull .308 1/10
Hornady advertises hotter ammo w/o the excessive recoil due to their blended powder, efficient & burn rate, and I think they performed as advertised.
5rds chrono-ed: 165gr @ 2810-2815, 5fps SD, borrowed a chrono from a reloader/shooter @ range, so don't know the chrono model. For 165gr, I believe that's a tad hotter than any standard 30-06 in 165gr, and recoil was about the same as all my 150gr hunt ammo.
My rifle loves Win. 150gr BallisticSilverTips, they have always drop deer on the spot, but I would prefer deeper penetration on off angled shots, hence I have chosen 165gr GMX for my next hog & deer hunts...
Tested w/ my stash of hunt ammo:
Last year's meat deer w/ Win. 150gr BST, all 1 shot drop.
210yards angled front shoulder, bullet fragmented, DRT.
180yards angled frontal chest shot, fragmented small core exited in front of left thigh, DRT.
365yards high shoulder, doe ran 15yards, dropped dead.
