How do you handle a hot suppressor in a vehicle?
I am going P-dog hunting again this year and have a new suppressor for my truck gun. (cheap AR) After taking 4, 5,... 8 shots out of the window at P-dogs what can I do with the hot suppressor? Typically the rifle is stowed between me and the center console (next to my right leg as I drive) with the muzzle pointed down. If I have a hot can on it I'm afraid of burning my leg, melting carpet or plastic. Is there a handy-dandy suppressor caddy that can be mounted in the truck? I'm thinking about adding Velcro to a welding glove and sticking it to carpet on the side of the center console.

Anyone have any ideas? products? or procedure?
Thanks

Suppressor covers will help a little to protect you & the car from side contact with the can. I have several Armageddon Gear covers on my bolt gun suppressors, and after 20 shots I can unscrew the suppressor by grabbing the cover with my bare hand.

I don't think I would point the muzzle down in a car if it's going to contact carpet/plastic/floor mat/etc. A buddy shot my suppressed AR and then placed it on my soft rifle case and melted a portion of the case to the can ......

Silicone oven wrap or shove it in a silicone oven mit

So, I think I'm gonna go with the M2HB asbestos glove and try to find a way to attach it to the center console. It'll create a "boot" I can put the muzzle of the rifle in when stowed and then be able to draw the rifle out from it while it stays in place. Some Velcro, pipe-clamps and structural bubble gum might get the job done. Or a PVC ring with the Glove attached to it all Velcro-ed to the console. I'll try to show you all what I come up with.

Get a Yeti-like coffee cup that the can will fit in. Put the cup in a cup holder, drop it in it when you are finished. Problem solved. You will also be able to carry it into the house without a glove and such.

Shooting out the window is pretty redneck. :pYou need a folding mobile table like mine.
Then lay it across the back seat, with a can cover, on a soft drag bag.

Shooting out the window is on on dogs-of-opportunity when going in and out of a dog town. Here is our standard setup showing the fella I go shooting with (not me). The bench breaks down for transport. fully rotates. and is hand made by us. We have a matching set to sit together.

Have a suppressor cover which is nice when shooting a lot for mirage, but actually takes much longer to cool so I remove when done shooting. Thermal hunting I have used an oven mitt turned inside out with success. Takes about 1.3 seconds to remove when it's time to schwackem.

Me to guide: "I smell something getting hot on your truck."
Guide: "there are a bunch of dogs on the mound at about 250."
Me: "I see them!"
Guide: "DON"T SHOOT!!!!"
Me: WTF?!!?
Guide: The floor mat has melted and plugged your suppressor's muzzle."
Me: "G#DA**NIT!!!!"
The silicone mitt is a good idea. Next time.

not the same scenario, but it’ll get ya. Like others have mentioned, get a suppressor cover. Burn proof gear has been good to me. I also got a mitt thing for straightening irons off Amazon for $12 that I use to take on and off my hot cans. Sometimes rest them on it to cool down after I’ve packed the guns up.

I use a hair straightener cover to sheath/take off. It was around and designed to take heat. Now is mine :)

Manta Defense covers Probably more of a semi-permenant type slip on .

Vid of 3 mags full auto. Safe to touch

Magpul has something but its dimension specific.
