How does testing for the virus help?

My state, Wisconsin, brags that they have one of the highest 'testing rates' in the country. Isn't it the rate of persons affected/infected/ sick that is the important statistic? There is no cure, anyway(there is still no vaccine for HIV). My impression is that this 'testing' argument is another excuse for keeping the country shut down for maximum injury to the President, since it is mostly liberal governors insisting on it. Wisconsin republicans are taking stay-home orders to the supreme court, which still has a republican majority.

My impression is that people can carry covid and infect others while showing no symptoms. Some people never get the fever and cough but infect others who then die.

They are finding now that young folks who never had symptoms have a 5x risk of stroke or clots.

Couple things IMHO.

More testing could identify infected people so they could isolate, reducing the spread.

More testing will blow up the infected number. That number would be used to scare people and bludgeon the president.

5 months in, how can they possibly have the data to make that statement?

More importantly I think is the fact that it is very nearly impossible to test 350 million people quickly. So they know they are asking for something that is very unlikely to happen quickly. Delay is the game. Destroy the Med system and economy, so that the Commies can rebuild America in the Socialist Utopian vision.

Both numbers, the number tested and the number infected, are needed to have any useful information. 100 people infected out of a test sample of 10,000 vs 100 people infected out of 100 people tells two different things. The media has been shoving the number of positive cases and deaths down our throats while rarely stating the number tested. Without the number of tests given, there is no baseline and the numbers mean nothing.

Because they have tested and tracked enough people now to back track their infection to common people who have never shown symptoms yet test positive.

My niece is a pathologist working on covid. Several places in the world including the US are having young people in alarming numbers showing up with strokes and blood clots in the extremities causing loss of limbs....they test positive for covid and have no symptoms.

Seems odd since they are now saying the young have no danger from the virus. Where is my can of Bullshit spray? :)

Control. Duping the stupid into giving up privacy and personal freedom in the name of "safety". Look for needing to show your antibody or immunity card to come in grocery stores, etc in the future and active tracking of the "sick or possibly exposed". All the squabble over NSA overreach in our lives a few years ago and here we are with folks who will be lining up to be tracked by the government. All for a virus with morbidity that has to be exaggerated to reach levels of a bad flu season at this point. Notice the target keeps moving....first it was flatten the curve and that has been accomplished but now its second spike and tracking. It will keep changing to further the delay agenda. It would make sense if the morbidity was the predicted 1.5-2,000,000 we were sold to kick off this unprecedented attack on the Constitution but it has proven to be nothing close.

The supreme court has a republican majority. Its funny to read that, we must have as many political scholars as engineers on this sight.

The vaccine for HIV is stupid comparison. HIV is not very easy to catch. A vaccine for it is not very important, or necessary.

Tracking and avoiding the second spike was always the plan after flattening the curve. There was no point in "flattening the curve" if we go straight back to normal after the curve is flattened. Then it just spikes again.

No group has died in mass numbers, not many are infected yet may be the cause. Its a likely culprit anyway.

This guy nails it

In the meantime, the federal government has to work with the tools at its disposal. That means it should enact a program of universal mandatory testing once the outbreak has receded—i.e., require that everyone get tested for the virus. Only, then, when testing shows that they are not infectious, can they end their practice of social isolation and distancing. Everyone found to be uninfected or immune after being infected and recovering could receive a certificate authorizing them to return to work and congregating with others so certified.

While a few legal experts may question the government’s authority to make testing mandatory, the government clearly has powers to promote people’s safety on a mandatory basis, from legally enforceable clean air standards and child labor laws to the requirements to use safety belts.

All Americans will fall into one of three groups: Group 1: the millions of people who have contracted the coronavirus and recovered. Of course, scientists are not yet fully certain that those people will develop immunity, but there is some basis for optimism. The CDC has said that people infected with a similar coronavirus, MERS, were highly unlikely to be re-infected after recovering. Other researchers report that the Covid-19 virus does not mutate easily, a prerequisite for the antibody response that would make people immune to reinfection.

There is less evidence, however, about whether those who have recovered are unable to infect others. But we can derive a reasonable answer from undertaking a round of mass tracking. The United States, China, Italy, Spain and many other countries need to start collectively tracking recovered coronavirus patients to see how many, if any, show up re-infected or have infected others.

If two-sided immunity holds, those recovered from the infection would be the first wave to return to work and community life. In Germany, scientists from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research are conducting a pilot program along these lines, testing 100,000 people for Covid-19 antibodies and issuing “immunity certificates. ”What about everyone else? They fall into Groups Two and Three.

Group Two would be the majority of people who have not been infected and are still vulnerable to catching Covid-19. In theory, they also could return to something like normal life—but only if they are protected from contact with those actively infected.

Those people comprise Group Three, current COVID-19 patients, including pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers. They will pose an enormous risk. Once new infections slow, some people actively infected will try to forgo any universal testing and return to work and social life, where they will infect others with the virus. Therefore, the testing regime with require sanctions. One idea: Employers who take back or hire anyone without the requisite certificate would either forgo or have to repay any of the financial support Congress has provided businesses. Those actively infected who try to masquerade as a member of Groups One or Two could be placed in government quarantine and held legally liable for anyone they infected.

Study claiming new coronavirus can be transmitted by people without symptoms was flawed

But the researchers didn’t actually speak to the woman before they published the paper. The last author, Michael Hoelscher of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich Medical Center, says the paper relied on information from the four other patients: “They told us that the patient from China did not appear to have any symptoms.” Afterward, however, RKI and the Health and Food Safety Authority of the state of Bavaria did talk to the Shanghai patient on the phone, and it turned out she did have symptoms while in Germany. According to people familiar with the call, she felt tired, suffered from muscle pain, and took paracetamol, a fever-lowering medication. (An RKI spokesperson would only confirm to Science that the woman had symptoms.)

You are just behind the data curve:

Testing generates numbers and then those numbers can be used for whatever agenda someone might have. The larger the data set the more accurate the results. I said results, not interpretation of the results.

There are a couple of caveats with testing - accuracy of the test kit and you test negative today, get exposed tomorrow and test positive next week. There needs to be a metric for the number of times a person gets tested.

I have been trying to research this and the news sources keep using the same five people in NYC and regurgitating the same story. Do you have any new news stories that don't write about these 5 people? (BTW, just looking for information)

This is from a trusted source of mine (He was my squad leader long time ago and went on to become a 18D; he now works in the medical field): "We have been measuring levels of clot related proteins in blood for weeks now. And the other "new" report about "COVID 19 causes strokes" is equally BS. It causes end organ hypoxia and stroke like symptoms. I know personally of cases of younger patients on ventilators for 8 days and their d-dimer levels are crazy elevated and they have yet to stroke out..."

The more tests that are done, the more Evers can keep the shutdown going. More tests= more infected, well...Duh! If he thinks, by having more tests done, we will see a 14 day decline of hospitalizations/deaths, well, it ain't never gonna happen. So, it's all about breaking the people and this Country. We need to have "herd" immunity, that's the only way this is going to get fixed, just like previous flues/diseases in the past. Fuck, you can't even by a mask now, without worrying about it being counterfeit or it's only 60% effective. We just need to go back and start living our lives, because, we can't even trust the PPE that's sold today. Our .gov has failed us and it's up to us to fix it. Just getting real tired of the constant drone of this plague shit. OH, did I forget to mention......FUCK CHINA!! Mac

Good article thanks. Another good quote form the article.

"Given how fast data are coming out amid the growing global crisis, it’s good to read even peer-reviewed papers with some extra caution at the moment, Lipsitch says: “I think peer review is lighter in the middle of an epidemic than it is at normal speed, and also the quality of the data going into the papers is necessarily more uncertain.

All of this data ,in my opinion, is not much more than a bin of shit. Nobody knows who has or had the shit and how far it has passed through. Guessing at numbers, authorities trying to keep their Gov. jobs.
I feel certain My Squaw and I had it back in end of Dec-1st of Jan. We were sick MOFOs.
I would be very interested in getting an anti-body test and if I have lived through this, can I give blood to help others? FM

It's not really surprising that COVID-19 is causing cardiovascular issues.

However, you are not telling the full story. The people that are facing cardiovascular issues are those that already have a compromised cardiovascular system, like those with diabetes.

Not really a concern for those with no pre-existing cardiovascular issues.

My wife is also in pathology.

They don't, if they don't have any other underlying conditions.

Same as any other illness. The media loves to whip up the hysteria, but the true facts are much more benign.

I'll say it one more time. We have a vaccine for the flu and still lose 40-60k people a year from it.

Supercorndog, this is for you. Stop licking their boots and spreading false information. You must love .Gov in your life.

HIV is pretty easy to catch. Hence why I have to get tested 4 times a year as a medic. Easy as the flu, no but still very easy to catch.

People die. It's sad. Life does and will go on. This is utter BS at this point.

Having to wear masks that dont work
Dont go to work because of maybe getting sick
Tell me, what is the rate of people who have been working that actually got sick or died from going to work.
We have now lost 424 jobs for every patient who has died from covid 19
What is the rate of actual positives to ones who showed symptoms to ones who were hospitalized and recovered to those who died from actual covid....

You are simply going with the crowd interpreting the lack of information the way you like. It is like you are playing wheel of fortune and you are trying to guess the word, but you haven't turned over any letters yet.

I will leave this here again, form the article posted above.

If someone came in here spouting global warming B.S, they would be run out by a bunch of statisticians, people explaining correlation doesn't equal causation, and complaints that their sample is too small. Spray bunch of RONA information with the same problems, from a properly political oriented news sight, and its soaked up by those same people. Proving they knew nothing about what they said about global warming either. Just parroting their preferred news source

LOL. The underlined has to be stupidest thing posted in this thread. "HIV is easy to catch." HIV causes about 39k preventable infections per year. Keep the needles out of your arm, the dicks out of your holes, and or your PPP on as a medic and watch out for blood or semen. No, more taste testing to see which is which.

Here is a good article that highlights some of the struggles with developing a vaccine for HIV.

I have worked around covid for the past 4 weeks now. The people lived.

If you dont want to expose yourself to it fine, dont work and dont go out in public.

This lockdown hasn't been effective, Sweden says this also where they didn't have a lockdown and they didn't have a spike in cases either.

Why dont you actually address my points above instead of just yelling off things you are hearing on MSM.

In addition to ^^^^, it also sets the pretext for mandating contact tracing applications. "We have all these tests, now we need to know where everyone is every minute of every day, who they associate with, etc"

@supercorndogs is an overweight diabetic with mountains of health issues and an asshole to boot. Probably an old retired federal worker as well. Government sympathizer. No use responding to him at all. He has been nothing but wrong since day one of this ordeal and still going strong.

What "Sweden said" supposedly agrees with your opinion. Other places say things that don't agree with your opinion. You are exactly as I said, going with the crowd you like and making judgments with a lack of information.

Just like you are going on the attack with me, with a lack of information. I don't assume the stay at home orders were the right move. I want to see what happens when we all go back to normal before i decide if it was the right move. I have been working and going in public through the entire lock down. Reserving judgment on a situation until more info comes to light, is not licking boots, its not being scared. Hasty decisions are often bad decisions. May turn out the hasty decision to shut the country down was the bad one. We will see.

You aren't making points, you are talking shit, giving opinions, and making stuff up. I mean really "HIV is easy to catch." 39,000 out of 300,000,000 in the U.S catch it each year. Why in the world would you vaccinate everyone for that low of an infection rate? If its not going to see wide spread use, why in the world would a company put much into finding one? Do you know what R and D cost? If anything that statement shows you will say anything no matter how untrue.

Heard off MSM,   You assigned me my opinion. I had not given one until this post. You decided it came from MSM because you assumed it was different than yours. That is stupid, but proves my point, you can't digest any information if you perceive the source doesn't align with you politically or doesn't agree with your opinion. That is a very poor way to evaluate information or have a conversation.

Many states have elected supreme court judges. If yours does and you don't like it, then lobby to change your state's constitution.

Personally I like it because it gives me the power to remove judges whose rulings and politics I disapprove of.

We elect more than supreme court judges in CO. They are not listed by political affiliation though. Your state has Rs and Ds by judges names on the ballot? If so what a fucking mess, courts being politicized is just as bull shit as alphabet agencies working as henchmen for a political party.

Obama had no reluctance to use the intel apparatus on Trump. Do you really think Judges would be immune from his dirty little paws? R or D it does not matter. They all have skeletons and families. Show me some real Justice and my faith can be restored. Not will be restored, but can be.

There are courts that ruled against them. So, his fingers probably were not as deep in the court system as the agencies. Either way, neither is supposed to be a political entity, or favor a political party.
