How hard are you pushing your 260??

I've run the ladder test and came up with my high and low node with H4350 and 140Amaxs. Low node is 40.8grs at 2600fps and high node is 43.4grs at 2950 fps. To me 2600fps is too slow to optimize the BC of the 140s. I think the 43.4grs in right on the edge of being to hot but man it shoots great. 97 degrees today and I blew a primer, although there is not real pressure signs. Ocassional extractor mark on head. I've shot 43.2 and it is a noticable difference. My question is, is anybody else running there's this hard?

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

Assuming you mean 43.4gr of h4350, then 43.4 is not really pushing the limits, at least not in my rifle. My "go to" load is 43.5 grains. I have gone as high as 44.0 and still had no pressure signs, and that was with weak remington brass.

I do have to question your velocity, though. I don't have a chronograph, but based on my "come up" from 100 yds to 600 yds, it appears I am barely getting 2800fps and that is with a 26" barrel. 2950 is smoking for a 140gr bullet. Are you sure your chrono is accurate?

No I'm not sure my chrono is accurate as it's a cheapo but it ready 2940ish for the ten rounds I shot over it.. But dead on at 100 with 2" sight height is 8.5 MOA (1.0746" per MOA on my scope). That puts it right at 2950fps

43.0 of what? H4350? </div></div>

yeah

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

41.3gr H4350, 139 Scenars, my chrono said 2660, but tweaking my vel via POI, my data shows about 2730... cant get her to group under .75 going any hotter.

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

This is interesting to me, as I have a buddy with a 260Rem. Loading single shot, he is pushing the 142gr SMK w/ H4350 at 2910fps, no pressure signs, from his 28" barrel. However, he is about to start loading for a short-action magazine.

Does mag-length vs. single load length have a big impact on velocity/pressure signs in 260Rem? I know he is hoping to get 2850+ or more out of the mag with the 142gr SMK.

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

I was running 43.5 of H4350 out of a 22" Shilen. It was moving about 2815. Everything was fine until the Alabama heat started kicking in. Now it has blown a primer and causing the extractor to stick. Needless to say, I am dropping it down to 43gr and we will see if that fixes the problem

Good question cause I'm running mine at 3.011 OAL

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

The deeper you seat a bullet in a case the pressure will go up.

If you seat them ling ans in the lands the pressure will go up

it's usually best to have your chamber set up as long as possible and then jump your bullets a Tad IMO

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

42.0 gr of H4350 on a hot day over here yeilds about 2750 fps. I have been as high as 44.1 gr with no signs of pressure. Your gun may differ of course.

Hey,

Is that a no turn neck?
Do you have the specs for that reamer? i am having a 260 done and want that exact load/OAL for the cartridge (2.92)shooting the 130 grainers in a AW mag...

Regards,
DT

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

Found reasonable accuracy with 43.5 grains H4350 (139gr Scenar), showed some pressure signs but nothing alarming. I would cautiously take mine further but probably won't as I'm going back to the 123's. Have got a chrony but don't place much store in its accuracy. According to drop at various ranges I make my load combination to be around 2800 fps.

Re: How hard are you pushing your 260??

42.2g of H4350
Norma brass
Br2
Berger 140 BTLR seated 2.875"
Gets me 2756fps out of a 4 groove 24" krieger in 55-60 deg. Temps. In 90degs temps no pressure signs and super easy on the brass.

I'll take accuracy over speed any day. Save the throat, save the brass, save powder. It will sling 139 scenars at 2900+ with 43.0 grains. Careful with H4350. It will jump from lot to lot significantly.
