How often do you clean your rifle?

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

I clean each time I go out, but then again I always shoot some pistols and never know when the pistol will be chose again.

Since the cleaning supplies are already sitting there, I'll do a quick clean of the AR before I'm done. Usually a quick clean, unless I was shooting a lot.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

100-250 Because...

A. I'm shooting my 700 which gets cleaned every ~150-200 mark
B. I'm shooting my Bushy- which gets cleaned every time- but usually sees >100 rounds when it leaves the safe.
C. I'm shooting hand guns- same as B.

(The 22 and shot gun- see very in frequent cleaning... because... well... )

I think my shotgun and my .17 HMR are the only guns I have that I don't clean after every outing.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

Cleaning what, carbon? Copper? Both at one sitting?
I clean copper when accuracy really degrades. Carbon when it starts to show degradation.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

250-500 up to 750 on my DI AR's and maybe 750 or so on my gas piston AR's. Bolt action and pistol ever time for the most part especially when shooting POS ammo.

This is what I do as well. I will sometimes run through a dry patch after a trip to the range, but not everytime.

I do the same. I have found my custom AR's shoot better fouled and dirty. The accuracy actually gets better the more it is shot. I have several guns like this so I shoot them and leave the barrels alone until accuracy suffers. I clean the other parts every 200-300 rounds.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

If you keep your barrel clean you will know where your first/cold bore shot will go. So, I clean after everytime the weapon has been fired. Bolt rifles are not so bad, but my Ar with a suppresor gets nasty with only 4-5 shots.

Cleaning procedure: 10 passes with brass brush/bore cleaner, let set for 10 mins, 10 more passes brass brush/ bore cleaner, cleaning jag/patch until clean.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

I clean the bore on everything when I am done, but I will just blow out the lowers on piston guns. Mind you I am not doing much with bores, I am running a bore snake, I don't use pushrods (which are pulled) anymore. I haven't seen an accuracy change in my shooting, nor have I seen a build up.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

I clean after each range session. Normally with my OBR I'll shoot between 30 & 100 rounds.

I'm obsessive about my weapons being clean and lubed. That being said I do not use harsh cleaning methods. I've been using Slip 2000 carbon cleaner and EWL for the past four years with good, make that excellent, results.

People whose opinions I trust indicate that you don't need to have your service weapon(s) that clean but I'm one of those guys that wears belts and suspenders.

My 7.62 OBR shoots sub moa and this works for me.

YMMV.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

Right now it's around 175-200 rounds but I dont see a degradation in accuracy. I'm seriously considering upping the cleaning interval to a carbon swab every 500 rounds and a copper scrub only if I can't keep accuracy.

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

Precision rifles - every time unless its just confirming zero or something.
AR's - boresnake, oil until maybe 1000+ unless it starting to look bad.
Pistol - 500+ unless its nasty. Can easily run glocks past 1000 with some lube, but I feel bad about my poor gun. Every time on carry guns and then touch-ups in between to keep em lint free.
12ga - boresnake, oil. what else is there? its a shotgun. LOL

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

my bolt gets cleaned and lubed every outing and and/or ever 10th round unless course of fire prevents, ar not every time depending on the usage between 300-500 rounds, my back up is a 1911 45 ill clean it before i store ar about 100-200 rounds in in match. i feel 1911's and AR run little better with a little powder in them, but not too much, like me. i run a little better with some jack in me but not too much

im not supose to drink on my meds hahahahahahahahahaahahhahaaha

Re: How often do you clean your rifle?

I don't clean anything until it starts acting up... And when that happens it gets a full strip down and cleaning.
