Gunsmithing How short can I cut my barrel?

I have a 24" wilson arms barrel on my ar-15 and would like to cut it as short as I can without any gas port modifications. I was thinking I would like to cut it down to 18" or 19" but didnt know how close I could get to the gas port without messing up the accuracy?

You can go to 18" but you will need to open the gas port.

cut it at 18 and see how it runs before you mess with the gas port. I have cut some 20" barrels to 16" and they ran fin even on full auto.

16" with a full length gas system is very hit and miss if it will run. not enough dwell time. some barrels will some wont.

You seen/tested much with the 17" RLGS stuff? I've seen several 3gun guys running such tubes, mainly all from the same guy. Some seem to shoot.

Worth playing with, or just STFU and go with the 18" setup?

So I take it accuracy wont be affected only potentialy the cycling of the rifle?

I have not used any of the 17" barrels, I think they would work with a carbine gas tube.
