Gunsmithing How the hell do I get this off???

I am trying to refinish an HS Prec stock and I can't figure out how to get the adjustable cheek piece wheel off. Figured you guys could help. I AM AN IDIOT..... apparently. Just didn't want to F it up. Thanks alot.

BTW, that is not an allen slot inside of the wheel.

looks like you might stick an allen wrench in and use that for leverage. Just a guess.

Can you screw the cheek piece all the way off and see if there is a clip retaining in the knob? Can you post a picture of the upper end with the cheek piece off?

When you max out the cheekpiece vertically is there a gap between the stock and the cheekpiece ? If there is ,you might be able to see what is holding the cheeckpiece to the bolt...Snap ring ,Etc.

Here is the top of it.... the best pic I could get of the inside of it anyway. It is like one giant bolt or something but I can't tell what is retaining it in there.

On my stock the knob appears to be pressed onto the splined end of the screw that adjusts cheek piece.
There is no set screw,snap ring.
If one were to try prying to knob off it might or probably will crush the stock,as HS stocks are mostly hollow in the butt end.
IMHO tape the little bastard up.

Don't have any experience with this so I'll second the masking tape and/or a call to HS.

No sense in messing it up with armchair gunsmithing.

Step Two - Sell stock on SH
Step Three - Place funds from stock sale in safe place
Step Four - Submit Funding Action Request to spouse for approval
Step Five - Purchase new stock from MCmillan with funds from sale bolstered with approved funds from spouse
Step Six - Submit Urgent Need Statement to spouse for approval
Step Seven - Upon approval of UNS from spouse ship action and stock to compotent authority for assembly
Step Eight - Approve compromises to FAR & UNS approving authority and attend girly opera
Step Nine - Rip out chest hair to retain manhood during intermission at said event
Step Ten - Enjoy your rifle though you will never again feel "Clean"

Why would I regret it?? Not to much could go "TERRIBLY" wrong. It'll probably be fine. Plus it is already inletted for my Badger M5 and bedded. So fuck it...
