Is their anyway to avoid detection from heat sensing devices at night, other than buring yourself in the dirt. presume these heat sensors can be used during the day also.

LOL
Wonder how long i would have to lay in a tube of ice, or better yet how long would i have to be dead.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

Have seen a dumb crook get lucky by hiding among some rocks that were still heated up from the day. That was some years back, I would suspect the FLIR is more sensitive today than it was then.

.....hou 'bout a nice black umprella?

Re: how to avoid detection at night

Think about the system and what it requires!! There is no easy way to beat it but it can be done. FLIR Technology is incredible these days especially the new (relative term) advanced systems which I have been lucky enough to play with.
If you ever get a chance look at the LRS and M2A3 thermal systems to get an idea of how efficient and awesome they truly are!

Your profile is lacking and I've noticed your questions seem to be more pointed lately, are you fishing for a reason?

Re: how to avoid detection at night

I know that igloos work, and are themselves hard to see at night with or without FLIR - even when doing low passes in a slip to check what will soon be the runway.

Just carry around an igloo.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

I'd read that mylar would help. I can see that (somewhat) subduing convective radiation but I'd guess it eventually would experience conductive heating. Maybe a portable blind made from mylar backed with a thin sheet of styrofoam. But you'd still need a silhouette that blended and didn't scream HUMAN INSIDE.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

Just read some interesing info on polar bears, apparantly they cant be seen with detectors due to their coat color, presume one could wear a polar bear coat to avoid detection.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

utilize the ancient art of northcaroliniantrailorparkjitsu. you set yer jumprope aside. sit in the middle of yonder trailer park and think cold thoughts thereby inducing your inner chi to cool your exterior to ambient temperature rendering you invisible to all who would attempt to thermal you.(it helps if you sit next to the winder air condishner)

Re: how to avoid detection at night

I saw a video with John Plaster where they had this blanket you could cover yourself with to conceal your heat image. It's probably on you tube. Wish I knew the name of it. The blanket was see through up realclose (like from the inside looking out) but was camo on the outside. It shows it being used with thermal detection devices and looked like it worked pretty good. Do some research and see what pops up.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

Theirs seems to be a lot of insecure type responses to this topic, does this indicate being seen with these devices at night could pose a real problem.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

You're not a coyote working in AZ are you?!?!
Your best bet would be a thermal lined suit. Or putting out excessive heat in your general area flair or fire.
Kind of curious myself now.

Re: how to avoid detection at night

hesco,

since you comment about insecure responses, I'll ask a question....what's your intended purpose?

Can thermals be defeated? Yes. Am I going to tell you how? No. And definitely not over the internet. Why? Because there are some of us on this board who use thermals, whether in Iraq, Afghanistan, or the southern border, etc. and we do not want the enemy to know the weaknesses in our capabilities. Even if you're interest is purely academic, I'm not (and more than likely anyone else who uses these systems for work) going to share it with you. This is an unsecured internet forum, the boogereaters have the internet, and there is a war on.

Not trying to dog on you, but it might help explain the lack of serious answers you're getting.

He hit the nail on the head....and sorry Ill Dog on ya though....come on now...admit it...you are really Maser signed in on a different name trying to keep the radar blip from ringing like an atom BOMB every time the "little line" passes over you!! HAHAHAHA

Re: how to avoid detection at night

There are plenty of ways to get around IR detectors

1. saturate the area with extreme levels of background IR radiation, think atomic detonation.
2. Steel the cam or batteries for the guy using it.
3. Let your body become ambient temp
4.Go kill a Predator and jack his rig, it defeated thermal in predator 2.
5. Use a "special" mirror to deflect ambient temp, think holding the mirror at 45 deg angle, if you held it at 90deg the detector would see its self.

LOL. I would like to get one too. Wouldn't mind the shoulder mounted laser gun either.

#4 yes it works, here's me no heat detected, beware of the self destruct button.

#5 regular mirrors work

Re: how to avoid detection at night

set a fire to distract the attention from you, or dress in all black and when spotted have a green led light and they'll assume your're just a firefly.

1290m, those sick SOB's would have heard the M2 bark. I assume this was shot from a Striker given the perspective.
YUCK that's just shit gross...

Re: how to avoid detection at night

why can't i see it (lazy 21's video / picture)? i've had this problem with other pics/vids in other forums.

i'm not seeing a preview or can click on it.

i could only imagine it's a taliban having sex with a goat or getting shot, or getting shot while having sex with a goat.

either way i can't see it, help!
