Advanced Marksmanship how to test elevation up to 1000 at 100

Re: how to test elevation up to 1000 at 100

Viper,

Thanks for the video. I never even thouhgt about doing this. I have a 6mm remington which I will take out and give this a try.

I already have my 500 meter elevation on the scope, I will see how close I can get using you're method.

I just got my first ACD yesterday and got my rifle all squared up and then I took the target idea from the video and hung it plum with a level and used the target to test for any canting issues. So I had target areas from 200-700 on one side of the center line to do the test from the video and on the other I had added hash marks at 3.6" increments to test my mil ret. A nice concept, thanks for the video Viper.

Thanks,
John

Thanks for the share. Like others said it's nothing revolutionary, and in fact it's very simple. But it's a great video to motivate to do tests like he describes and make u think in a different way.yes the box test tests the accuracy of your scope, but that is a one dimensional test. It only tells you that your scope clicks are off. You can do other specific tests that will tell you that a specific thing is wrong. But this is a great method to see if your overall picture is is right. As long as data into your ballistics software is correct thn you will get an accurate drop. His method is a great way of exposing flaws in what you think your data might be , without having to actually try all the different yardages in one day.

Re: how to test elevation up to 1000 at 100

After I've chrongraphed my load, I zero for 1000 yards while at the 100 yard line. For example, if my ballistics data says a 1000 yard zero will produce a bullet path 36 inches high above line of sight at 100 yards, then I'll adjust my sight to hit 36 inches high at 100 yards. Since my sight graduations are somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4 minute value, using this trial and error technique is the only for sure method of getting a first first round hit at 1000 yards and thus more time for record shots.

_9H A box test is much more effective for this. [url="http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2109944&page=1" said:

I couldn't make it 45 sec into this vid.
9H thanks for the great link. I agree with the others as this does nothing but verify your scope tracks out to the "said" 1000 yd elevation and a box test is better verification for this.

However, this would have been useful as I was at a shooting class with targets out to 1000 yds and I have never shot past 500 prior to. I was using a Zeiss conquest (1" tube) that did not have enough elevation and I made the mistake of not checking it before shooting that distance.
