How to verify anemometer accuracy?

So I'm making due on a student's budget and I bought a cheap anemometer. I was just wondering what the best way of verifying the accuracy would be. I thought maybe holding it out of a car window, but I don't know if the aerodynamics would cause the wind speed to be different than the car speed. What about a ceiling fan? Anyone know the range of speed for a typical ceiling fan? I'm reading 3 mph on high... which seems low. Thanks

Not sure of anything to use as a control. I recently tested a Weatherflow adapter for the iphone and it was only .1 off from my kestral. The pic is just a milisecond after it went to report mode. The Weatherflow can take samples from 3 seconds up to 60. Was trying to hold them and take a pic at the same time. Either way the Weatherflow is legit, only $35

Hopefully you can meet up with someone who has a good meter.
