Howa 1500 builds **post them**

How do you like your barrel? I have a 26 inch in 6.5CM that I got a few months ago but didn’t get a chance to do load devt yet.
I have only shot commercial ammo through it but it has shot everything at less than an inch. I am the limiting factor on accuracy, I need to work on my shooting skills to really get the full potential of the barrel.

This bad boy is transitioning from the factory 20' .308 barrel to IBI 24' 6.5x47 "medium hunter" profile. Have a Vortex LHT 3-15x42 ready to ride atop and a metric ton of 130 hybrids, should be dandy

Had never heard of IBI so looked them up. Try as I might I couldn't find any mention of Howa threading anywhere in their site. Is this something one has to call in?

Is anyone changing barrels at home on these? If so, how do you go about with it? I've never had or done a switch barrel rifle so I literally have no idea where to start. I see some barrel manufacturers are offering howa 1500 prefits. Any info would be appreciated!

Good stuff. Have you shot with the new glass yet?

I hear it's a top notch scope and for that, I've been curious to buy one!

Tomorrow.

I picked up the barreled action earlier today then bolted everything up a couple hours ago. Gotta boresight it tonight, then off to the 100 yd range tomorrow for zero and chrono, then to Thunder Valley on Sunday to see how far this thing will go.

Hi all. I recently purchased one of the Howa 1500 Lightning rifles in 300 PRC from Buds Gun Shop. I shot it for the first time yesterday and had some ejector marks. BF81E2CB-2538-4CA5-A0DA-73788D3A4580.jpeg

My load (virgin Hornady brass, GM215M primers, 74.5 grs RL26, 225 ELD-M) didn’t seems like it was high pressure; easy bolt lift, no excessive case expansion, no primer cratering or flowing, cases easily re-chamber. The velocity was also lower then expected than a excessively loaded round, 2717 FPS.

When I looked at the ejector I noticed that the end is rounded. When it’s compressed with a round loaded in the chamber it looks like there would a be a small circle of the brass that is not supported during firing.

Is this a normal mark you all see on your fired brass or do you all think it’s a pressure or rifle problem. Thanks for your input.

Mike

Hey guys, looking pretty hard into getting a howa 1500 for first long range rifle. I wanted to get the KRG 180 xray, but seems that they dont make them anymore. I see the howa bravo sold separately is a pretty significant bump up in price from the non-howa bravos, which is unfortunate, but probably the direction I'll go in. How much were the factory assembled Howa Bravo's before they were discontinued?

Regarding the 6.5 cm barreled actions from Brownells, I see the price is ~$530 today. Has this gone up since the barreled actions came out? I see people post about getting howa BA on sale for <$300, but were these in 6.5 cm or I am guessing .308.

They are 6mm Creedmoor with a 22 inch 2# profile barrel and I think they are still at that price. As for the stock, look at the MDT XLR chassis, it is just like the KRG Bravo chassis. On a side note, now with 300 PRC becoming popular, I like to see MDT and KRG come out with long actions of those two chassis.

Brownells has done good sales on occasion, but more frequently in the past. There was a sale for $250 6 cm barreled actions a few weeks ago. They don't seem to go that low very often any more.

That's about what price I got my 6.5 Cm barreled action from them a few years ago, but they now come with muzzle threads and a thread protector from the factory for pretty much the same price. Nice little bonus. Any of the sub $500 Howa barreled actions are probably sporter weight barrels. Still kicking myself for not picking up one of those $250 6 creedmoors just to use as a donor action...

The barreled actions have gone up in price over the years. I got my heavy barreled, threaded 6.5 cm for just over $400 about 3 years ago. That was before Brownells was the exclusive dealer though, I had a local place order it for me.

They're a great first LR option. Good factory actions with good QC and triggers. Tons of aftermarket support now too.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has upgraded their bolt lift/bolt knob and what you were using? Thanks
I had one of mine turned down and threaded standard size for most aftermarket knobs. Another came already threaded from the factory.
On my two Mini Actions I have installed the generic rubber bolt balls and they work alright for what I use them for.

Where do you buy Howas? Been looking on the interwebz. Seems the 24”, 26” heavy barreled stuff is hard to find. Is Brownells going to restock barreled actions ?

They pop up in the exchange every now and then. Our California gun chain (Tuners) was selling full rifles with cheap stocks for $300 earlier in the year. I bought several of the rifles, threw the stocks away, and used the BA's to build on. That was probably the best firearms related deal I've ever found.

I looks good to me, I wouldnt worry about it, especially with a Howa. They are pretty overbuilt just judging by the action weight.

Thanks for responding. The ring is indented into the case, and as close as I can measure is the same diameter as the ejector hole on the bolt face. I think I must have a slightly raised edge from the machining of the bolt.

you know, its not just the gun....someone has to pull the trigger. Good shootin' Tex. Great Job

'daww....well....shucks. Thanks.

I actually just swapped some of my scopes around, and the Midas came off in favor of another SWFA, identical to the camo rifle. I'm trying to standardize as much as I can, and I really like that older model SWFA.

Putting it through its paces tomorrow at Triple C, so we'll see if it repeats the performance.

Nice bolt work 🤙🏻

I am finally getting around to building my 20” .308 heavy barreled action i picked up for dirt cheap from brownells 3 years ago.

its not exactly what i am looking for but there is somebody on Calguns selling a brand new Manners T2A for a decent price. If you want a Manners without the wait it could be a solid option.

Decided to get back into bolt guns a few months ago after being out for quite a while, but wanted to keep it in a budget.

Found a decent deal on a slightly used rifle, swapped the original Hogue stock for a used B&C ebay find, and bought a Vortex 6-18x44 Strike Eagle on closeout.

I've only tried Federal 168 GMM and some Australian Outback 168 that was on sale at Global. So far, the A/O definitely outshoots the Federal.

Glad that stock has a shooter in it. I put some work in to that thing. Small world that I just saw this.

Here is mine. Weatherby vanguard HB in 308 win.
SWFA SS fixed 10x scope with sunshade. Vortex 30mm low rings. Nightforce 20 MOA base.
MDT XRS chassis, MDT AICS polymer mag. Legacy sports tactical bolt knob. Cheapo bipod that’s been on a ton of my rifles over the years, same with the cheapo sling.
The rifle was an absolute bughole shooter before the chassis. I have not been able to shoot it since transplanting it out of the god awful plastic stock it came with, but I’m fairly confident it’s going to be good.
I had seen a question about the SWFA glass in the thread, my experience with this scope is that it has very good optical quality, the mechanics are solid, the clicks on the turrets are well defined and positive. This one has the side focus knob, I like that a lot too. All in all a great scope for the money, I have had some that cost twice-three times the price that were not as good.
So far this one is really liking 155gr TMKs over 41.4gr of XBR. They get out of the barrel quickly but group well at 100-200. I’ve shot it out to 800 with 100% hits on steel, never shot for group at that range though. It would probably be decent though.
