I have a Remington 700 LTR with an OD HS Precision stock. I was thinking about getting an AICS 1.5. Any reason why I should or shouldn't switch? I think this HS is okay, but wanted to go with something different.

Advice from those with experience would be appreciated.

Re: HS Precision or AI stock

I like the HS but my own rig is in an AICS. Ruff, tuff and feed 5 and 10 rounds mags. I agree with the above post. You either like them or you don't. I have to admit when I first shot mine it was so strange that I did not care for it. A friend convinced me to run it for a week before I made my mind up and I'm glad he did. You couldn't pry it from my hands now.

Good luck,

JamieD

Re: HS Precision or AI stock

Hi,

have been thing the exact same thing, have a 308 VS remington and was looking at the AICS, a mate has fitted one and said" the groups stayed the same but the comfort is better and detachable mags a big plus" so I'm saving up.

Re: HS Precision or AI stock

I've switched to an AI from a HS and love it. Can't believe I waited as long as I did to switch. I really have become a fan of different chassis systems like the AI and McRee. I started building my own rifles and really like the idea of not having to mess with bedding, inletting or opening up barrel channels. Torque and go!

I have a Rem 700 P in .308 in the AICS 1.5

And a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in .308 in a Bell & Carlson LTR

I have to admit that I prefer the B & C LTR stock.

Re: HS Precision or AI stock

what is your current stock not doing that you think a stock should do?

personally, i'd want to know that answer before i said someone should or should not switch to a different stock, and if so, which stock that should be.

Re: HS Precision or AI stock

The AICS is a great system, but the weight would probably be the major detractor.

The guns I've handled that had AICS stocks were fairly heavy.

The guns look great though, and folding stocks and magazines are nice to have (although it would be great if the magazines were also much more affordable).

If you could compare it to an HS with AI mags, I'd lean toward the HS.
