HS Precision PST025 vs Mcmillan A3/5

Thinking about upgrading to one of these stocks. I don't have an opportunity to get behind either one to try them out so asking what guys here prefer.

The HS is the adjustable M24 vertical grip style. I've had other HS stocks but not the vertical grip. My only McMillan experience was owning FNSPR in an A4 and I liked the stock.

The HS is about $200+ cheaper, will not need bedding. The McMillan has pillars from the factory.

Barreled action is a Remington 5R .308 20" BDL. Mostly I'm a prone shooter. Need an adjustable comb.

Yes, I'm sure. wouldn't bother bedding an HS.
The McM... Most likely at some point.

The McMillan has much better ergonomics all around IMO. That particular HS stock isn't bad but isn't on the level of the McMillan. The McMillan would need to be bedded and a bed job does actually help the HS a good bit too, it's block isn't a perfect machine fit. If you want straight drop in with a good fit I would look into the Manners Mini Chassis stocks or any of the chassis systems on the market.

A drop in fit would be sweet. The few HS stocks I've had have all been great, bolt right up and shoot sub moa as-is.

Unfortunately Most of the Manners w/chassis are not available at this time (for BDL). Adding the DBM and cost of mags pushes out past my budget. Don't mind top loading my bolt gun. No experience with Manners either. I'll consider the McMillan a bit more......

I think it really depends on your budget. If you can afford the mcmillan then go for it.

For the value, I love my HS stocks. I have the model you are asking about. Got it inletted for the M5 bottom metal. Yes, no need to bed the stock the aluminum bedding block does it's job well. I like the generous palm swell on the grip.

The manners comes with the bottom metal and one mag included in the price. It's about the same as you'll spend on the McMillan by time you add a few studs or flush cups here and there as well as pay a smith $250 to bed it. Check with stockys, they have a lot of manners in stock readyto ship.

+1 on considering the Manners. Any of their stocks with the mini chassis offer the best of all worlds. As stated before, once you add the cost of bottom metal and bedding, the Manners mini chassis is actually a good bargain

If you can try the stocks first and see which one feels the best for you, see if any members in your area to go shoot with. Only one of my HS stocks is bedded and it was a custom 6.5x55 Swede that had to be inleted for an Atlas bottom metal, all of my rifles shoot sub 3/4" or better

Unfortunately long range bolt guns aren't a popular commodity in my state/area so I don't have the opportunity to check out any of these high end stocks - that's why I'm looking for your advice.

Also it looks like Stocky's is out of stock on any variation of Manners chassis to fit my gun so narrowed the choices down to two again.

Did you try the Manners website? They usually have a few with the mini chassis in stock and ready to ship.

I like the fit of the HS, and that i could adjust lop and cheek height while on the rifle, and the vertical grip works for me.

No interest in the B&C Medalist 5 with the adjustable comb? From what I understand the are aluminum bedded from behind the action up to the front of the forearm. Seems like something that might suit your needs.

No more B&C's ever again for me. Two bad experiences and no help from customer service either time.

McMillan won my business. With helpful emails from Ryan their production manager I was able to track down the exact A4 I wanted.

Should arrive in a few weeks.

I've had a couple HS's and I'm currently running a Mcmillan A-5. I bedded the HS, and I haven't seen a need to bed the Mcmillan. It doesn't even have pillars. On the HS stocks my stud for the bipod always came loose. Definitely not a problem with the Mcmillan. The HS stock your talking about does have a nice feel and look to it, but I like my Mcmillan better. The only thing I don't like about the Mcmillan is the adjustable cheek piece comes loose after a few shots on my .308, no matter how much I torque it down. I'm going to modify it with some rubber grommets and see if it makes a difference.

Hook, my a3g did the same. I made a spacer out of delrin. It fits down in the slot that the saddle goes in. Even if the screws loosen up the cheek piece won't go anywhere. As a bonus when i clean the bore it makes resetting the cheek piece easy, drop in and tighten.

No prob, just make it a little taller and sneak up on it. It took me two tries. Measured once and cut, it was 1/8" too low. The hole in the stock is deeper then the aluminum bar that goes down it. Good thing plastic is cheap,lol.
