hi all ,
getting new phone tommorrow,
which has the best ballistics programs avalible for it ,
currently use jbm on the pc,
any thoughts and advice from users?

also worried about breaking it , the otterbox looks good what else is out there that the hide would recomend

I think a phone should be bought for more than just one program; that said the Android market continues to grow, and is available on multiple providers networks. Iphone is available with full support on only one providers network. I would also look into coverage for your area. Droid does have an excellent ballistic calculator, Shooter; sorry, but I cannot speak for Iphones programs.

I went android.

the original Motorola Droid was junk. I went through 3 problematic phones untill i persuaded them into giving me a refurb Droid2. This phone has been answer for my needs. There is one paid ballistics program for the Droid

I like Ballistic much more than I did Shooter...except shooter allows the use of the bluetooth kestrels in realtime. It's a real sore spot for Ballistic (iphone).

However, every part of the Ballistic app seemed better. I also REALLY like the new Otterbox for the iPhone 4 and have 0 issues seeing the iphone 4's screen in bright daylight WITH oakley's on.

I just picked up the 32gig iPhone. Can't complain as it is much faster than my old 3G. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. That being said, I haven't had much time to mess with the other phones so my opinion has some bias.

ive read what i can on the htc desire hd
and it look like its good , but there are alot of reviews that complain about battery life?
the apple fans dont seem to complain much?
apart from that they do seem very similar

the ability to link to the kestral could be the decider

Ditto. All my super computer geek friends that run Apple's for their web hosting, graphic design, etc. all say Apple is king on computers, but all run HTC Evo's 'cause it smokes the iPhone.

I work in a control room with about 5 guys in it all the time. 3 of them have Iphones and one has the HTC Evo and one has the Samsung Galaxy. They all have theirs plugged in charging at least a couple of hours out of the night because they have apps running in the background. The 3 that have the Iphone love it as do the two that have the Evo and Galaxy loves their phones. The Evo's screen is larger and if it matters to you has the camera on both sides so you can face chat with your kid or someone else while on 3 or 4g. I think the Iphone has to be on wifi. Not positive on the wifi though. At work, we can't get on the wireless network so the only one that uses the feature is the guy with the Evo. Pretty cool feature. I will be getting the Evo myself. The other thing I have noticed on my friends Evo is that if you have "fat fingers", it is alot easier to hit the right button for texting.

I have an HTC Evo 4g, love it.

Battery life can be a problem. Me if I'm at the range, I put it in airplane mode, I can't talk over the shooting anyway. Battery lasts forever that way.

+1 for the EVO.
I like it because:
-You can actually replace the battery.
-And you can upgrade the memory as the MicroSD cards gain more capacity. IIRC you get an 8 gig card to start with.
- No Sh&%ty AT&T service. Got to try out the 4G service in Atlanta, man its smoking fast.

Had a Android phone, then went with a iPhone, switched back the Android. It's a much more user friendly interface. It's easier to customize to your liking, and most importantly, it's has better reception then the iphone. The iPhone might do apps well, but as a phone, I find it rather shitty.

Iphone, all the made up problems are just that made up by competitors. goin on 2 years now and zero problems. NOTHING comes close. Apps are dirt cheap and this phone is basically a handheld computer.
Why try other phones to save a few hundred bucks, just get the iphone, why do you think there is a new latest greatest phone model coming out every other month?? Because try as they may they cant duplicate APPLES products or its success?? hmmm

At my office we have a large tech department (not me though) and they all have Iphones for work (work pays for it) needs but they all say go with the Evo if picking between the two. They say that the Iphone is not a bad phone but it is not as good as the Evo. They constantly talk about how Apple's success, while they do have a decent product and their computers are pretty good, that their success actually truly comes from their marketing not their actually product. Again not saying they have a shitty product but that, from my tech department, they don't have the BEST product.

Just run the "Juice Defender" app on your HTC and battery life will almost double.

Select the Market Tab from your app table. Look for "juice defender" or the little green droid man and download. I also found the the biggest drain on my EVO's battery was the GPS. Shooter is awesome, I have KAC on my I-Pod and while it will do most of the things that Shooter will do, Shooter is a way more in depth program. Not saying it's difficult to use, there just more customizable funtions.

I have an iphone 4 with the KAC program and I find it (the phone and the app) intuitive and very easy to use. That being said I'm not of the experience level of some of the shooters here and by no means am I saying it's the best. I'm just saying it works for me. as for the phone I have never seen anything come remotely close to the iphone in terms of intuitiveness and easy of use. It's just a complete well thought out package. I have never had a problem with ATT but I know others have. Just my humble opinion.

Im not just saying that because I have one... personally I hate most apple products, and initially itunes gave me the shits.

However the iPhone has served me well and is very simple to use. Simplicity should go hand in hand with a phone. With the vast majority of people you can give them an iphone and it doesnt take long before they work out everything themselves.

Some other competitor phones are a little more complex and imo it does my head in. My mate has a GalaxyS and its a nice phone and all but I just dont like it as much as the iphone.

Apple only make a few products and of those few products, they make them well.

In regards to ballistics programs, they tend to all work very well provided your inputs are spot on. Dont expect precision and accuracy if your set up is wrong, atmospheric conditions are wrong and muzzle velocity is wrong.

EVO 4G. had two ATT Iphones both would do everything but make a Phone Call. Went back to Sprint have had Zero problems using the EVO.

iphone hands down, the Droid is a piece of shit. The Droid is a quarter of what the iphone is and if you do your home work for you "Coverage" people. You can bet your ass here real soon iphone will be available through 2 more major wireless providers this year. I wonder why "MOST" in the computer security profession worth a shit, that aren't a bunch of cheap asses trying to save a buck are all running MAC's. Buy once cry once, you have to pay to play. So settling for a piece of shit Droid to save a buck on your wireless plan is about ass backwards. Pick up a iphone and don't look back. I wouldn't use a Droid to play fetch with my frikn lab.

That's my opinion, really.

bit of an improvement over my old e90.
looks like i will run shooter

over here the htc and iphone are same rrp on the high st
but on contract the htc was a much better deal.
the guy in the shop also said they were getting 4 iphones a month back for repare, so far no htc

Picked up an HTC Aria a few months back..cost about $80 or so from Wallyworld. Smaller, lighter than the Droid/Incredible/Droid X/etc. Nice and slim, and it seems to be holding up to abuse pretty well (bought the screen protector and rubber case). Shooter is absolutely worth $10, hands-down no questions asked. Plugging in environmentals and getting right on target is a blast. Plus it's fairly easy to experiment with different loads and find out immediately "what would my results be right here, right now if I had bullet X and velocity Y and distance Z?"

My battery life is fairly good, although it was obvious from the get-go that GPS is what eats up most of your resources. If you go to Settings > About Phone > Battery > Battery use you'll get a breakdown of what's sucking up the juice. I've seen numbers up around 80-90% from GPS at times; it's been inside for a few days and now it's showing 28% from voice calls, 22% on standby, 22% wifi, 21% idle, 5% android OS, and 2% display. Been unplugged for about 10 hours, and it has 60% charge remaining. YMMV...

ok first thoughts on the htc , well the screen is amazing, the handset feels cheap,
the battery is useless, after about 10mins of playing with it, it was down to half power.
the camera is dissapointing , need to look at the settings, taking pics indoors cant handle the light comming from a window.
the battery is only £15 but the battery cover does not feel like it can take a lot of use,
with a battery life this short i would not take it out shooting,
i will experiment today with standby times, will make sure all apps switched off.
i can see this going back to the shop!!

I am sort of displeased with the stuff Ive bought from apple in the past. There is a bone yard of dead Ipods in my office. I bought 2 60gig 3rd gen ipods for my wife, a nano, a shuffle, and a classic and the only one that still works is the shuffle and it is about as useless as tits on a nun. I bought my wife an Ipad against my better judgement regarding the pile of useless apple shit in my drawer and I really hope the thing lasts longer than the ipods. The phones seem to last so maybe they have it figured out.

Love my EVO - Great phone, easy to use system - and I don't have to be stuck with ATT.
