Hunting & Fishing Hunting Dope

When you guys go out of state or in state, with major changes, in Altitude, Temp, and pressure, are you able to calculate your dope for the new area and have it accurate?
I'm going to Arizona in a couple weeks elk hunting, and I'm hopeing the new dope I have figured is accurate.
Any thoughts, Wayne

I think that is what I am dealing with, but I thought the ballistic calculators took care of it.

i left indiana (600ft elevation) with a 200yd zero. i got to gillette wymonig (? im sure somone can chime in) and was hitting 3.5 innches high a 200

The longer your zero range is, the more it's going to be affected by conditions, both atmospheric, and the change of muzzle velocity with temperature.

For example, with a .308 at 100 yards, the trajectory is essentially flat - within 0.1 inches - from 70 yards to about 110 yards. So, you're not going to see much effect from a change in air density or muzzle velocity.

Then, assuming that you know how much your muzzle velocity changes with temperature, you can use a ballistic program to compensate for the change in conditions.

If you use a longer zero, then you had either best rezero in the new conditions, or have a ballistic program which can compensate for the difference between the condition in which you originally zeroed and the conditions you are now shooting in - which some of them do.

Look at google earth for your alts, and then get the temps off a weather source. I get the alts, then make a chart that goes from 30-100degsF for a back up paper copy.

Anyone Reading this post that shoots at different locations I would highly advise you to read the info posted by Lindy, All Of It, then read it again. This has been some of the most informative information for figureing DOPE I've run across!!!
