I completely agree and you're right. There is no honor in making an animal suffer, much less to kill an animal in an inhumane way for your own entertainment. If this really did happen (which I highly doubt), that's pretty twisted. If you're going to kill an animal, you do it quick, clean, respectfully, and for a good reason.

Not to mention that without a valid hunting license, that's downright illegal, no matter what animal it is.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

Thanks for steering this youngster in a more noble direction. I agree that respect for the animal and minimal suffering should be the goal when taking any animal. I also do not believe in feeding the buzzards which is why I won't do any depradation work outside the normal trapping or hunting season at any price, though I haven't done any since 2003.
I have not reccomended a knife nor will I do so. I have a pretty good working knowledge of knives as I have designed and built a few but none beyond skinning and gutting.
Yes fellas I smell it too...had my nostrils flared since the first post.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

Ok it was stupid, reckless, and maybe I am crazy for not fearing death or disease.

It was my first time sorry.

Ok from the beginning. The rancher had this yote for some time now, and its the only one in the area. Nobody has any dogs in the area so it kinda makes it simple to see. His snout is slim and slender also like they describe in hunting regs.
He asked me to kill the yote a few months back, but I didn't have the time to do so. He had been eating his watermelon crops, and harrasing his pets n such from what he told me.
Ok I went to work and had my .22cal in the vehicle but I forgot to buy ammo first so I left it inside. Stupid I know. I loaded the truck (16tons a song about working the coal mine and stayin in debt) and decided to go running the wash nearby. He was layin in the open so I think he may have had heat exhaustian which would explain why I was able to run up on him. We (dog and I) chashed him down into the brush. Which is a tree lining thick with fallen branches.
When he entered the brush he took away his only advantage which was speed in my eyes. I had to get down on all fours and went in after him. Which is where I picked up the stick. I didn't want to get bit so I used it to pin him down. It bit the stick instead of me which is how I stabbed him. He actually didn't yelp once to be honest, and I went for vitals. He was alive for maybe 1min after I stabbed him.
Like I said before I would have shot him but I forgot to bring ammo!

I do have my hunting license if you believe me, and it states in AZ Fish and Game Code that season is July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012 state wide and that include rimfire. So unless I'm a complete idiot, which I hope not meaning I made a grieves mistake in judgment, but its open year round. This also includes skunks appearantly. It said this last reg book also. Its open year round.

I will have to post a pic at a later date. But I'm not making any of this up. Fine if I fucked up I can accept the consequences and do what I have to and make amends, but I don't think I killed the wrong animal. But I have to verify just in case.....which is why I am here.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

Also my hay squeez has a max load of 8,000lbs if you round it down. I loaded eight dumps of alfalfa hay, and it was a little light. So lets say 5,000lbs times 8 equals 40,000lbs.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

I'm thinking Gecko45, Savage110, and this guy are all the same person. It's the INTEEEEERNET, you know--that place where you can be anything and say anything without having to face someone to back it up. Heck, for all you know, I killed two African lions at the same time with my bare hands while playing chess with Bill Gates---or maybe I once took on 50 guys down in Mexico from some cartel with nothing but a fountain pen and won...you never know...I could be Chuck Norris!

Regardless, honesty will get you farther and earn you more respect in life than making up some grand tale. If in fact your tale IS true (which only you know and possibly only you believe), then I seriously hope you have better judgement in the future.

There are times you kill without respect.

Only humans though.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

Humm fellas you arn't being very polite by calling me a lier. I don't know how you do things where your at, but calling somebody a lier isn't the best thing to do. That internet thing about not facing consequences works both ways actually. But ok.
Like I said I will post a photo of the skull at a later date, and honestly don't know why I'm coperating. Anyway here are my arms that I have managed to afford throughout the years. It isn't much but its all I got. The reason I asked for advice for a new knife is simply because I don't have a huge amount of funds, but I guess some peope don't have that problem.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

I had a coyote cornered once. Long story short, we boxed him in below a 300ft cliff, straight up and down (we were trying to run him down and rope him a horserback). Long story short, he put his head in a crevice, and got stuck. I had to go (climb) to where he was at and pull his ass out. I dont know how I didnt get bit.

Op, I dont know why but I believe you. What you did was stupid, yes, but I think you are telling the truth.

Re: Hunting with a Knife

I'm in love with the Gerber LMF 2 Survival in Camel Brown and would love for the chance to hunt with it.

I've got a Strider Buck (like the one in the picture) but with a blade length of 6-5/8", Overall length of 11-7/8" and weight of 16.6 oz (with a beefy 1/4" blade) it's just a bit to much knife (and I never thought I would say that)
I remember wondering if one could successfully stab a deer in the chest cavity and cause a deathly blow. After I had taken my archery deer, I decided to see how much force it would take to stab downward into the upper back of a deer to see how deep the puncture would go. I was only mildly surprised to achieve a 10-12" slice all the way down the rib cage and as deep as the blade would go, almost completely severing a lung in half, with very little effort.

No, you said you asked for advice on a knife because you couldn't stab through a coyote hide. That would mean that: A: You wanted advice on a knife design (not price) and B: You probably have no clue how to sharpen a knife

You then proceeded to tell a very wild and inconsistent story, which quite frankly, I'm starting to think you may be crazy enough to have done.

Where I come from, if you have some wild story, you either back it up with some proof or you're called a liar. Do you know what they tell you in court when you have no proof to back up your story? It didn't happen! Now whether it did or did not is between you and God, but I've heard and caught too many lies/liars to take everything I hear as 100% truth.

The reasons for you posting your guns is beyond me (trying to show off? a veiled threat?), but regardless, it looks like this isn't the first time someone has chewed your ass out on here and I doubt it will be the last. https://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2028101

Re: Hunting with a Knife

For some helpful advice:
1. Only stab an animal with a knife if it's attacking you and you cannot use a gun, or if it's already been severely wounded and you're going in to finish it off

2. Pick a knife that has a shape for your purpose
http://www.the-knife-connection.com/knife-blade-types.html

3. Make sure to keep the damn thing sharp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttdTCJxv6uw

4. Don't do anything stupid with it

Here's what I bring hunting with me http://www.gerberstore.com/index.php?xpage=itempage&xid=724

It's good for stabbing, but luckily all I've ever had to use it for is cutting.
