Within days of the video and report being circulated, several men were found dead in their offices, bodies riddled by submachine gun fire... Wuhan is a major tourist area as well as home for many local extremely high tech industries that are the pride of the prefecturate leaders wanting to rub the faces of prefecturate officials in other parts of the country in the dirt. They did not even acknowledge the existence of a viral outbreak in the beginning. Dr. Li Wenliang was lucky to have just been arrested and harassed, prior to his death from COVID-19. There were other whistleblowers who simply disappeared and they were most likely assassinated for attempting to tarnish the city's reputation. Like I have said many times in the past, China is a feudal society by nature. Governments won’t do anything, China is too big to start trying to shove around the playground. Businesses may be inclined, but with China’s population businesses won’t cut off that revenue stream. Or if some folks decide to walk away from the table China has the money to make lucrative deals with the big players.

EVERY original source of tainted medication had a CHINESE manufacturer. I'm glad that what I witnessed, is now becoming a NATIONAL issue, with champions like Tom Cotton to fix this.

No we cant make US goods as cheaply as Chinese goods because we value life, we value our environment and we are not communist motherfuckers.
If the cost of each of those things was added to the Chinese good you would see that are products can be made at the same price as theirs.
Than when you add in transportation costs you will see our products are cheaper than theirs if made and used domestically.
We have made a Faustian pact for cheap shit and it is costing us everything.

However, I think niteshooter brings a good argument about taxes that have absolutely, in the past, driven companies out of the US manufacturing market. That said, one thing was left out...regulations. The amount of regulatory garbage people have to do to even start a business is mind boggling. Let alone a manufacturing business.

I work for a small oilfield service company. We pay $100,000 per year for insurance. We don’t manufacture but work downhole. Liability insurance is a bitch. Add in property tax, employment taxes, etc.

We're not militariarily going to attack China as we do not need to. However, I'm definetly (and have been for years) on the Fuck China team.
I think we'll see more tariffs on them as well as after the dust settles, things like travel restrictions that makes it a huge pain in the ass for anyone with a China passport to come here, additional cargo inspection requirments making it a total pain in the ass to ship things here (after paying a big tariff on it) thus backlogging their supply chain and weakening demand for it. This will steer the US based companies who are on the 'lowest price wins' mindset towards a better option as opposed to not being on board.
I think the bigger play here is to use the aftermath of this to begin the process of shifting manufacturing in China in part back to the US where the cost of making it here isn't pricing the consumer out, but moreso into making a 'developing economy' the new manufacturing hub and sourcing more from there over time, thus making China flail in the wind as we have a replacment for them. What can China do? Basically nothing; they need us WAY more than we need them. If their manufacturing market share goes to shit and instead is year by year replaced by a growing manufacturing hub in a place like Brasil , Ukraine or Mexico (double bonus here as we can send the illegals back for work/have something so they dont come here), they will absolutely implode without us firing a single shot.
Look at what its already done to them with just some tariffs from a guy who doesn't back down. It would also be awesome to have them in that position to then renegotiate some debt. Them lashing out in anger to this via attacks on Taiwan, Japan, etc would only ensure their demise that much faster.

People need those things cheaply when pinned down under half of there income tied up in taxes otherwise they couldn’t afford anything and there would be mutiny. Can’t keep control to enrich the few like that.
High tax at home and cheap crap from abroad to appease the masses is a symbiotic relationship. Gives the foreign powers more wealth and it’s kicked back to keep that wheel in motion.
