They are acting like they are taking clues from the playbook of the National Socialists.
Get complicit / corrupt / ineffective law enforcement to sort of turn a blind eye.
Crank up the violence but keep it under the threshold where good people give up on hoping the "police" take care of it.
Attack and harass your opponents constantly, but just the right amount to scare people and not enough to get them to band together.

Unfortunately history is not on the author’s side. Soldiers (American soldiers included) will do all sorts of crazy stuff they’re ordered to do. All you have to tell them is it’s terrorists they’re confiscating guns from and you’re good to go. The thinnest most bullshit story will be sufficient to get them to follow orders. A soldier is not looking to disobey orders. They’re looking for a way to obey. Always have and always will. You need oathkeeper officers if you’re going toe to toe with the gubmint.
With a threat from The Govt to the Republic itself, I have great faith in the Military to do the right thing.
