I Got a surgeon long action magnum repeater action for a build any suggestions

Man im pumped I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with 300 win mag. For hunting and banging steel My dealer has a light varmint 1-10 twist krieger barrel in stock would you go with that or something heavier. and I ordered the badger muzzle break. I've got mcmillan stocks on my .308 and 6.5 creedmoor. And my dealer has a5 and htg for the surgeon action in stock. But we built a 30-06 for my dad last month in a aics 1.5 and it seemed alot lighter. Also a AI ax is not out of the question is it lighter than the aics. But I also like more traditional looking stocks and a m24 set up would be cool as well. Any ideas would help thanks to all

theres nothing light about the LV contour. its just a little lighter then the heavy varmint contour but pretty comparable to something like an m24/m40 contour. i think it would be awesome for a 300wm build. if you like the mcmillan stocks then stick with them, i prefer them myself. youre not going to save weight with the aics, but you wont have to bed it or buy bottom metal either. sounds like its going to be a winner either way. good luck

McMillan or Manners will be lighter than the AI chassis. As far as barrel contour, you need to ask yourself how much weight you want to lug around, its a balance of contour/weight/length vs velocity. I use a Senduro contour or something similar for most of the larger caliber builds.

I would build a 7 Mag throated for 180 Bergers in a Mcmilllan A-5 stock, no question. Less drop at 1000 and way less kick than a 300wm.

7mm mag is my second choice and im still keeping it in mind. In this day and age though I just kind of like to keep my cartridges in line with what the military is using. Doubtful but who knows maybe ill run across some surplus someday. But the biggest thing is i bought a buddies reloading supplies all of his dies etc,about six months ago. And from that deal i have a set of redding comp bushing dies, and a micrometer for 300 mag and a couple hundred peices of new brass. So that saves me $300 right there

I would have suggested the 7mm as well but since you have components already that's a definite plus. Right now though 30cal bullets have been harder to find then 7mm at least for me.

I would personally not go over a 26" Sendero profile for hunting unless you have very little packing in to do. The AICS stocks are heavy but the folding feature is nice. The Manners folding options are also nice and a bit lighter.

Spoke to my dealer again they also have a standard palma barrel which will knock a pound or two off in weight. Im trying to get this lined up asap because i was already set up to drop of the parts of a custom built ar im having my smith do for me later this week. He lives a couple hours from me so it would be cool to drop everything off to him at once.

I run medium Palma barrels on everything 6mm and under, but it is a fairly light profile with a 30 cal. It will be light, but it will heat up fast. I think a Senduro contour would be good, even fluted. Below is a pic of a 338 Edge with a Senduro fluted barrel built by Benchmark in Arlington, Wa, very light and accurate setup. In fact, this complete rifle is about 1/2 lb lighter than a Sako TRG I have with a 24" med Palma barrel, and the Edge wears a 27.5" barrel with brake.

I have a LV in 7mmRM and he's right, don't let the name fool you! I'd also suggest a 7mag also, but if you have your heart set on a .300.......
