This just happened. So my neighbors borrow my lawn mower to mow their front yard as theirs apparently is a POS and they don't want to mess up the yard. Kid comes over and gets the mower. I tell him while he's at it I'll pay him to mow mine. Go inside come back out about 30 minutes later. Kid is mowing his front yard with my mower. Dad is helping him out by mowing mine with theirs! WTF!!!!!

So the problem is that when you scalp a yard in this August heat which is what he was doing, it takes a whole lot of water to keep from loosing it entirely. And I didn't spend $400 on a lawn mower to have to do that.

I don't want anyone to know I have swivel sockets (SAE/metric), Honda powered pressure washer, Stihl chainsaws, aircraft length drill bits, inside/outside micrometers, you get the picture. I started to add up the rough replacement cost, surprised even me. I have a buddy who spins wrenches on Johnrude outboards, I'd let him borrow something, he would return it.

When I walked up to him, he shut the mower off and I asked him why he didn't want to mow his yard with his crap but he didn't mind mowing mine with it. He just looked at me like I was an idiot for a sec then said 'Oh.' That's it! LOL. I just shook my head and told him to just stop mowing, walked over to the kid got my mower and finished my yard. I didn't really know what to say. LOL, it was a little surreal. Felt like I had to be on a hidden camera. I know they won't be borrowing anything of mine again.

edt: The one thing that did come to mind was "You can't fix stupid".

I had a neighbour borrow my lawn mower a few years back. Six hours later and he still hadn't come back, I started wondering what had happened as his lawn was only about 100 square feet. I went next door to ask about it, and he'd lent it to someone else after he'd finished.

What's the old saying "Neither a borrower or a lender be" ?

Oh Ive got a good one to add to this story.

I have a light industrial zero turn mower that has a TON of power. You can mow a large area very fast with ok results or go slower and have no debris left behind because the blades chop the hell out of all the grass.
My neighbor who I found out later was a huge drunk asked to borrow it for the day, because he wanted to mow the yard. Now I didnt know him that well but I had just moved into the area and in the county here neighbors help each other so I relented. I drop it off on my way to work and quickly forget all about it. Well On my way home that Day I happen to look over and see a mower that looks just like mine being used like a damn raceing buggy on a dirt track in this farmers field across from my house. The guy was popping wheelies with it by driving backward at full speed then throwing it into forward at full speed. This lifted the front wheels feet off the ground then slammed them forward hard enough to rattle your teeth( I had accidentally done it once myself when I first got the mower). I sat there and watched him do this 4 or 5 times before my shock wore off and I tore across the field after this guy. He sees me coming pissed off as hell and attempts to laugh it off. He wasnt laughing when I took over the bill for the broken rod that keeps the front wheels aligned as well as paying a guy to re balance the blade and knock the dents out of the cutting deck with a metal workers hammer. Ended up costing him about 200$ for his little jaunt. We havent spoken since and I consider it no great loss.

One of my neighbours decided to have a big bonfire late on a Sunday evening just a couple of weeks ago, it was red hot so everyone had their windows open (this is England don't forget, we don't do hot all that often or have airccon in most houses..), washing onthe line etc. Hardly any wind so the smoke just drifted up from his yard and pooled in mine drifting in nicely through the windows. Fuck knows what he was burning, wet leaves and mouldy mattresses possibly but I made sure he got the message. Idiot, dont know WTF he was thinking... He'll not get to borrow my lawn mower anytime soon that's for sure.

Dick move on his part and worse in a sense than the OPs story. Total disregard for your property, if you wouldn't have caught him I'm sure he would have returned it broken and made zero mention of it. Which is why nobody borrows my Scag. I'd rather mow the neighbors shit myself than to let them do it and I great neighbors.
