The cheapest I would go is vortex venom or Burris fastfire III. That way if they die then you can take advantage of their no questions asked warranty.

As for dot size… I want 6-8 MOA but Im using them for USPSA and I want fast acquisition and that size isn’t covering up an entire target/scoring zone. If your talking bullseye or something then get a smaller dot for your specific competition.

I have switched over SRO’s and 5 MOA for my comp guns.

and I’ve ditched all irons on those guns too because they aren’t needed. No need for backup sights because they aren’t defensive guns. My backups are a complete optic equipped second gun.

I have 6,000 rounds through one (EDC). 2,000 rounds through the other (range toy). They've held zero with a kung-fu grip. I've banged the one on my EDC into more door jambs, appliances, and furniture than I care to admit. Not a single issue with them.

I have the RM07 on my FNP-45T. I've had it for 7 years. 3,500 rounds through that one. No problems. Without a doubt, when it comes to "ruggedness," the Trijicon RMR is the gold standard. I call this rig, "The Beast!"

I liked my RM07 just fine... until I tried a Holosun 507C-GR-X2. It is "mo' better!"

So, bear in mind that I didn't get the Holosuns because they were less expensive than the Trijicon. I could have just as easily purchased more Trijicons. We're talking about another $160. It ain't the money. I bought the Holosuns, because I like their feature set BETTER. When Trijicon stops resting on their decades-old laurels and makes a top or side battery compartment, green LED option, and perhaps some reticle options... I'll definitely reconsider.

While I totally get the anti-China thing... I really do... I'm a red-blooded, flag-wavin', military veteran, American Patriot.... and would RATHER buy American... The American companies simply aren't making what I want at this point. So here we are.

But casting the "airsoft" aspersions towards Holosun optics is without any basis whatsoever. They are NOT the same as the "Chinesium" <$100 optics with funky brand names on Amazon. Holosun makes some good shit.

So it fired after the picture?

I was loading that thing up one morning to carry and I docked it back in its pistol cradle with a full mag while I looked for the single round to top it off.

It was too butt heavy and rolled out of the pistol shelf, to the safe shelf off the safe shelf into space, rolling like a ball until it landed square on its back strap at the bottom edge of the safe.

I should have ran like a scared girl but of course I watched like it was in slow motion and actually tried to catch it which would more of likely ended with me sticking a finger in the trigger guard and causing the ND to happen.

Instinct to “catch” took over the “good sense” to run.

Anyway the way that thing landed with a concentrated point of force strong enough to chip the cerakote gave me a bit of confidence that this particular 320 won’t go off if dropped.

I’ve since added dropping my gun and running away to my training skills hoping to build muscle memory.

Prime example is “Olight”.

I get bombarded with emails from that company.

I bought an Olight originally for that AXG because it was the only thing that looked to be compact enough to not extend beyond the muzzle.

I knew I was taking a risk but what arrived was a bigger POS Chinese hot turd than I could have imagined.

Immediately sent it back and now its Surefire X300s or nothing on the pistol mounted lights.

I moved from a 407 to the eps carry (agree to make sure u grab the carry version) for my EDC (sig 365xl) and was a bit worried about it feeling “bulkier” but no issues.

Here's a 407K compared to the EPS carry...they are pretty much the same size except the back of the EPS is squared off....width, height and length damn near identical but the EPS window looks a bit bigger and you never have to worry about lint or what ever blocking the emitter which I've had
happen and one of the reasons I've switched to the EPS.

So one observation that doesn't appear to have been touched on. Couple of years ago I was at Fouled Bore in OK waiting for the fog to lift so I decided to use the pistol range to kill some time. Pulled my AXG scopion with a Romeo Pro 1 and a Nighthawk Agent with an RMR out of an 80 degree car into 37 degree ambient and the Sig fogged up instantly and was useless until it normalized. The RMR06 never missed a lick. I say this because most of the time I would assume that our concealed pistol and optic will be at or near body temp. A fogged optic is NOT a suprise I want. I know... Point shooting and all that but why risk it when a couple extra hundred bucks ensure superior coatings that eliminate the issue. Just an FYI.

It will be a carry optic/limited optic gun and maybe an open gun if I put a compensator on it. Shoot some hogs with it and maybe a house gun. It's not a carry gun that has to perform when SHTF.

The Bushnell RXc-200 is a 6 moa dot with a 5 year warranty. Has a RMS footprint. But it looks like you have to take it off to change the battery.


C-more has a few that have 6 moa or bigger dots. They are more money but have a 30 year warranty. The CRC looks like you have to take it off to change the battery, but it has the RMS footprint. The RTS2B and the STS2 have a side loading battery tray, but they say you need their mounting kit to put it on.

I personally do not care for the auto adjust units for that very reason....they auto adjust....Don't quote me on this as it's been awhile but I remember reading somewhere that the Holosun AA units adjust from the light that is directly above the sight and the Trijicon adjusts from the light that is in front of the sight and both have a lag when they do adjust....either way I prefer to adjust the sight manually...again just my personal preference.

It sort of reminds me of a Leupold and an RMR having children.

Eotech will suffer from the belief, real or imagined, that their other optics had a zero shift in cold weather.

My first choice would still be RMR but if saving another month or two was out of the question the mere fact I don't know where that is built would have me researching where it was built but most importantly its performance.

It has to perform first than I take made in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, or the Philippines in no particular order over communism any day, and probably still buy a Trijicon dual illum over any of those anyway.

I wasn't sure if I would like the chevron. But I love it. I find it very intuitive and easier to pick up than a dot, which can be a factor for defensive use. It's like an arrow saying, "bullet goes here."

Besides being large and easy to pick up, it can be used as a "bullet drop compensator" for various distances at the range.

I got the green version and like it very much.

My opinion, for the $0 its worth, is that Chevron style reticles aren't natural or intuitive, and they are used incorrectly in a pistol style red dot. Again, this is not a rifle scope, so at no time should you be looking at the dot. So having a "refined" point at the top is worthless in my mind since I shouldn't be "aiming" with anything but my eyes on the target. The reason a circle is so intuitive is because its symmetrical and clean. When you start talking about shot calling and assessment of your fundamentals using the dot, a chevron really starts to dirty up the mix, and adds a screwed up component of having a perfectly clean, round circle now be an oblong arrow head thing lol.

I don't mind a chevron on a carbine or in something like an ACOG, because it can be utilized properly in that role, but shifting it to a pistol dot seems like either marketing strategies or done by someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with pistol dot shooting...or both.

Of course, that all being said, different strokes for different folks and I'm sure someone somewhere prefers the chevron, so you do you. For what its worth, I've shot 10's of thousands of rounds with pistol RDS and I shoot with guys who have 100's of thousands of rounds and I've never heard anyone say they prefer a chevron for serious shooting. For fun, do whatever you want.

I'm curious why you'd need a bullet drop compensator on a pistol? Unless you're talking a rifle?

I'm not big into pistols, but I bought a not-a-glock this past spring and put an RMR07 on it. I only have about 3,000 rounds on it now, but I do prefer the 07 to the 06 that I've used in the past.

I do wish I could get an ACRO with larger dot.

Can you elaborate a little on your objection to a 10 MOA chevron? I haven't looked at one in person yet, and I am trying to understand what the issue is. I have read a couple of reviews where the chevron won over skeptical reviewers after using it and weighing pros and cons. I would be interested in hearing your experience with it and analysis of any pros or cons you would like to share. I'll probably be choosing a red for sight in the next year or so, and I would like to learn as much as possible from the experience of others before doing so.

I wasn't sure if I would like the chevron. But I love it. I find it very intuitive and easier to pick up than a dot, which can be a factor for defensive use. It's like an arrow saying, "bullet goes here."

I'm just about certain you and most people focus on the reticle and not the target.

Post a video of you shooting a 10 yd group with the front of your chevron Holosun covered up with tape and I'll eat crow.

I'm not saying you need it. Just that it can be used that way. For defensive type shooting... of course not.

But at the range, if I want to do some more "precision" shooting at various distances, I can use the chevron as a reference for a better / more predictable POI.

It's funny you said it wasn't intuitive. I find it super-intuitive. So, of course... "YMMV." In the end, any of us will have to find out for ourselves. Each of us will have different preferences.

But for defensive style shooting, I really like it. Otherwise, I would agree with another poster's suggestion of a BIGGER dot.

I've done a total of 16 hours of training (with instructors) with my EDC equipped with the Holosun 507C ACSS. Without a doubt, I am faster with the optic than I am with irons.

The biggest advantage is a full-time focus on the threat / target.

Holosun. The 507C with ACSS Vulcan reticle. I believe it is a Primary Arms exclusive. But it may be available elsewhere. I paid $315 with my veteran's discount.

For what its worth, I've shot 10's of thousands of rounds with pistol RDS and I shoot with guys who have 100's of thousands of rounds and I've never heard anyone say they prefer a chevron for serious shooting. For fun, do whatever you want.

This is what 99% of the people on here talking about this just don't realize.

What you and I do in USPSA stress tests the entire system to a degree that backyard plinkers and tactical dudebros running drills and going to classes cannot ever imagine.

It has to be a giant clue that nobody, I mean NOBODY, who is anywhere near successful in a USPSA division where optics are permitted uses anything other than a round dot. And the trend is towards larger dots, not smaller (you being the oddball LOL).

This one is a RMR footprint and 6 moa dot. It is cheap enough that if I don't like it I could re purpose it for something else or sell it off dirt cheap.
