“Asking for a friend.”

4 month old SkeetIR-X, 2 month old CRATOS.

I know which one HORTA would keep. What about the rest of you? So much cash tied up in cool things that don’t get used much is not ideal.

Says the guys that don’t have cratos... I don’t have skeet. So I can only say this, I wouldn’t trade cratos for anything.

The differentiator is the head mounted capability. There is no hands free option for the Cratos that I'm aware of.

In terms of clip-on, the Skeet can do that too, granted without a FP laser and those color pallets. But it works all the same as the Cratos.

The skeetir designations still trip me up a little so I might be off base, but I wasn't a huge fan of the military issued skeet ir for anything over 1x. It's nice as a pocket thermal, and is light enough to head mount, but the one I had didn't resolve enough for me as a clip on.

Also, I thought the skeet ir had a laser? I coulda swore mine did.

Skeet has IR laser.

You probably used the SkeetIR-L.

SkeetIR-X beats CRATOS on detection range and display quality.

Lighter, smaller, higher performance, head-mountable, IR laser, optional 3x magnifier, TraceIR support, etc — Skeet beats CRATOS.

Let me add-

I like wandering around at night, but don't live where hogs or other night critters are especially abundant.
I have a Triji Patrol (big, but can be helmet mounted, and is VERY close, image wise, to the Skeet), never had a problem with it.
I have a COTI, and another on the way, and several I2 rigs...

Different ball game, different uses. But the cratos has a different processor in it I’d say because the image is that much clearer/ detailed/ etc. I’d say it’s nearly skeet level from what I’ve seen. I’ve looked through a couple utms & UTMx (not side by side), and the cratos is on the bae core level imagery . I’ve owned reapIRv2 and the cratos has a cleaner image than that. Hopefully this clarifies things.
Absolutely. I just like to get opinions from guys whove actually put eyeballs on some of these things. Alot of poeple out there reviewing products theyve never actually seen.

Grey market is like a red head. Fun to play with but possible drama and loss of money lol

Actually, no.

Do not confuse “Gray Market” with “BLACK Market.”

“Gray” market is completely legit / legal. It was never owned by Uncle Sugar and is therefore NOT stolen US.GOV property subject to repossession and other repercussions. Dabbling in the Gray Market means the only risks you take come in the form of lack of warranty and support and possibly getting the dealer in trouble with the MFG should they get wind of your private ownership.

“BLACK” market means ILLEGAL — it is gear owned by Uncle Sugar and is therefore likely stolen and subject to repossession and other potential repercussions. Dabbling in the BLACK market will get you a visit from some well dressed, clean-shaven gentlemen that often lack any sense of humor (a few of them are actually a hoot).

I’m totally happy playing in the Gray Market Sandbox, because the only risk is owning an expensive paperweight when the toy in question ceases to function. I refuse to get anywhere near the BLACK market ever again because, while there’s certainly a lot of tasty juice to be had, the squeeze required to get that juice carries a potentially high cost down the road.

Yeah yeah yeah.

I consider that stuff getting. Some of your tax money back.

And f the decision makers that give tax payer paid for gear to semi hostile nations or destroy it. Just so the ya citizens don’t get ur. They should offer it up for sale to the US public.

A .mil guy posted about turning in a bunch of pristine peq2s and then they broke the diodes it if them.

Such BS

That’s not an unreasonable position, and many might agree, but that’s not how the Alphabet Bois see it, with their mandate and a paycheck attached to tracking down and recovering such goodies with extreme prejudice.

If I’m Joe 11B hopping off a Chinook on top of some Afghan mountain, the last thing I want to see is Muhammad Akbar with a PEQ-15 duct-taped to his AK.

Unfortunately, it happens. I’m still shocked that more Jihadis aren’t equipped with NODs and thermal, considering really good stuff is widely available overseas now.

Honestly, even if a peq15 could be procured commercially at cost, it'd still be more cost-efficient for an organization like the taliban to duct tape or epoxy-bed wish.com IR lasers to their AK's.

A more well funded organization like ISIS might be able to swing something a little more sophisticated, but if we're being honest with ourselves, it's not like anyone with a peq15 is much more lethal than someone with a well bedded wish.com laser just because he has a peq 15

On the other hand, night vision is a huge game changer but will always be cost prohibitive.

If clip-on, or even dedicated weapon mount is the primary use, CRATOS is a hair better. For anything else, Skeet is the undisputed lightweight champion.

Skeet is the only true universal multirole thermal out there available to we mere mortals. I’ve been told by people who know more than I that Skeet-killers are on the horizon, but rumors don’t do nuttin’. Until the Voodoo-S makes it to the consumer market, or [Next Big Thang] comes our way, the SkeetIR-X sits atop the heap.

I’d take it over the UTM-X as well, all things considered. Put the CRATOS, UTC, UTM, ChinaSkeet, LWTS/LR, or any other commercially available thermal in front of me and tell me to choose only one, and it’ll be the Skeet — without a nanosecond of consideration.
