Although raised in a strict Catholic family and attended parochial schools I drifted away from the church due to its willingness to embrace socialism. The drift away for me started during the '68 riots when a uber progressive nun who taught our class said the people of Newark had the right to burn down our houses. Pope John Paul was a great leader of the church and being from Poland understood the evil of collectivist systems. Unfortunately, the current Pope is an avowed socialist and purged many of the conservative voices in the church. For them his name is “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They are extremely offended by The Law, the idea of redemption, and horrified by the faith required to receive such grace. Any clergy who embraces collectivism is very confused about either their faith, or collectivism, or both.

Lenin, Marx, Stalin, Mao, Trotsky, Castro, and all collectivists hate Christianity above all else, because the idea that there is an Omnipotent God who loves us and sacrificed himself so that we could conquer death stands in direct opposition to everything they believe. The idea that each of us is loved individually and that human life has value above all else flies in the face of all their false premises.
