I find it perfectly reasonable that the police should aim to actively uphold the rights of citizens. I find it unreasonable that a police force of three would be assumed responsible to make Custer's last stand against a raiding team of ATF agents. Even more unreasonable without knowing any of the other circumstances.

I don't believe the officers in my sheriff's office travel out of jurisdiction to go police places they aren't wanted, and I don't believe there has been an ATF raid in their jurisdiction either. And the only cops I have ever talked about are the ones with whom I have experience.
This was the official statement by our sheriff on detaining or fining people for covid violations:
"The statewide face covering order is a public health directive. It is not a mandate for law enforcement to issue citations and arrest violators. We urge you to take personal responsibility and be respectful of all Montana citizens."
I am guessing his officers followed these orders and did not require handcuffing for violating rights during covid.

Again, I've never said anything about cops being good nationwide, statewide or even the town cops in my area being good, as I have never encountered one. Only my sheriff, and I have explicitly refrained from doing the other. You run from strawman to motte and bailey and back. I agree with the mandatory minimums idea, but I highly doubt the current federal administration will go for it. Somehow it unfairly targets minorities.
I no longer believe in this when criminal is defined by who you vote for. I have a good buddy, a US Army Ranger and then a contractor who is now a convicted felon. He lost his job and his security clearance. His "crime" was driving into NJ with an AR15 unloaded in his trunk and having faith in the police when he got pulled over.

Making it an automatic death sentence everytime a gun is used in a shooting doesn't really scare anyone. First of all how many of these mass shooters are actually captured alive? Most suicide themselves after killing a bunch of other people, or shoot it out with the police. Many criminals have already been to prison and have already decided they are not going back. When people are in a fit of rage, even the teenager that was going to stab that girl the other day until the cop shot her was not thinking about dying, she was in a blind rage and not listening to the cop that had to shoot her to save the other girls life.

If the cop really is worried about violence, he should give all his guns and all his officers guns to local CCW holders, as police have been found to be less law abiding than CCWs, and murder (like convicted murder) people at a rate 3x higher than CCW.

No, I really am not defending every cop with a broad brush. I specifically said I had no opinion on cops I don't know, and have never dealt with. They don't particularly treat me royally, but our sheriff and his predecessor have been two of the people leading the charge on both constitutional carry in my state, and in fed nullification, and, as I posted above, were clear that they would not be policing the state mandates on Covid. There are other things that I will not post here, which also give me confidence in them. I have also dealt with them personally.
I live in the ruralist of rural Montana. This isn't fucking Miami, and the sheriff in my area is actually advocating, in writing and in deed, for the exact opposite of what you are saying. We don't have rap concerts here. We don't really have criminals incidents outside of the occasional bar fight, and they are not called in for those. The biggest event in the area is a once yearly rodeo. Again, this isn't Miami, and the sheriff here isn't Art Acevedo. That is my entire point, that you can only judge them based on their policies or actions, not based on some dude that is six hours away by plane in a place I don't particularly enjoy visiting.
While I don't feel like engaging in black vs white, there are also exactly zero black people in my town. I believe there are 40 black people in my county, and it has an area of 2500 or so square miles. As far as I know, the homicide rate for them is exactly zero, as is the homicide rate for the county for at least the last 6 years.
Now, I have lived other places with awful police, and, as I have said, I am sure as hell not going to defend them as an industry. But I wouldn't defend the entirety of any industry either, nor would I condemn the entirety of any industry. That would be ridiculous. That is my only point. It seems, frankly, bizarre that the only possible position to take on this forum is that all cops are totally bad. Take, for example, @pmclaine. I believe he is police. I also may have my disagreements with him, but I do not believe that he is out there looking to take away constitutional rights. I also don't believe he would run, M1 Garand in hand, into every ATF raid in his state like a one man QRF. That would be ridiculous. Have some sense. There are good and bad of everything. Cops, judges, military, bankers, machinists, whatever you are looking for, the population in that group is going to be decidedly mixed.

You know, i have had that happen to me 3x with border patrol. On the third time i called them out on their bs and was pretty pissed off, told them to give me a warrant for wanting to go through my vehicle. They tried to give me some bs and i shredded that. Told them to fuck off. They did and i went on my way. Have not been stopped at a bp checkpoint since. I went through them for years multiple times a week. Work and pleasure.
Douche tried to give me some “the dog alerted us to possible blablabla”. Ha! Cause its real hard giving a dog a command to “alert” on any vehicle they want. With facial recognition, plate readers and all that, its real easy to know who comes theough the stops and how often, flagging you and your vehicle. With the dog they have reasonable cause. Uh huh. They said “ well are you the original owner, how do uou onow someone with drugs or an illegal never have been inside this vehicle” line of shit. I said “oh my, you are right! Then why didn’t you stop me the last 600x’s i came through here?” Your dog must be broken back then! Oh, or is your dog broken now?” After sitting there for 15-20 minutes they told me I was free to go(sure they called about a warrant and got denied).
